The system includes at least one motion sensor operable to capture physical motion of at least one articulator that contributes to the production of speech, at least one acoustic signal sensor to receive acoustic signals, and a processing device comprising a memory and communicatively coupled to the at least one motion sensor and the at least one acoustic signal sensor. The processing device is programmed to correlate physical motion data with acoustical signal data to uniquely characterize the subject for purposes of verifying the subject is the source of the acoustical signal data and the identity of the subject.

    Abstract: A transparent telephony system is disclosed for providing hands-free communication. The transparent telephony system includes a device for initiating a call between a caller's location and a call destination based on a voice utterance (e.g., the call recipient's name) made by the caller, a device for reproducing the voice utterance made by the caller at the call destination so that the call recipient may identify the caller, and a device for handling the call attempt in accordance with a voice utterance made by the call recipient. The call handling device enables the call recipient to optionally accept the initiated call and establish two-way voice communication with the caller by uttering an appropriate voice command ( e.g., "go-ahead" or "yes").

In particular, a directory assistance call arriving at an automatic call distributor via a directory assistance trunk is first processed by a speech processing system to compress the initial request for a telephone number.
