  • Patent number: 9937774
Abstract: An air vent includes a housing extending between an inlet opening and an outlet opening, such that the housing defines a substantially closed air path between the inlet opening and the outlet opening. A first vane is disposed within the air path and is configured to rotate about a first axis. A second vane is disposed within the air path and is configured to rotate about a second axis, which is substantially orthogonal to the first axis. A controller is configured to rotate the first vane about the first axis and to rotate the second vane about the second axis. The controller is disposed outside of the air path, such that both the first vane and the second vane are adjustable from outside of the air path.

  • Patent number: 9718329
Abstract: An airflow outlet assembly and a passenger compartment for a vehicle includes a housing defining an aperture extending along a central axis. The housing includes a central support disposed in the aperture proximal to the central axis. First and second outlet components are at least partially disposed in the aperture of the housing. The first outlet component includes a first plate and a first vane extending outwardly from the first plate toward the central axis. The second outlet component includes a second plate and a second vane extending outwardly from the second plate toward the central axis. The first and second outlet components are rotatable concurrently with each other to change the position of the first and second plates and the first and second vanes relative to the housing such that the first and second plates selectively close and open the aperture.

  • Patent number: 9481224
Abstract: An active airflow outlet for a vehicle and method for facilitating airflow through an active airflow outlet are provided. The active airflow outlet may operate in one of a static mode and an active mode. The active airflow outlet may include a motor, a gear assembly, a plurality of vent blades, and at least one control mechanism. The gear assembly may be operatively connected to the motor and the plurality of vent blades. The plurality of vent blades may be capable of occupying one of an open position and a closed position. The at least one control mechanism may be configured to signal the plurality of vent blades to rotate from the closed position to the open position and signal the motor to rotate the gear assembly and the plurality of vent blades in the active mode to facilitate additional airflow through the active airflow outlet.

  • Patent number: 9341386
Abstract: A vehicular airflow outlet comprising a plurality of outlet units having an airflow unit, a ball joint, and a connection member; a control knob unit including a control knob coupled to a ball joint; and a connection mechanism configured to couple the ball joint of the each of the outlet units and the ball joint of the control knob unit is provided. The airflow outlet allows for the direction of airflow throughout a vehicle passenger compartment without the use of multiple sets of vanes. The airflow outlet directs airflow through the use of a single control knob. Force applied to the face of the control knob is operable to simultaneously pivot the ball joints of each of the plurality of outlet units and the ball joint of the control knob unit in unison to adjust airflow direction, allowing for the direction of air at a variety of angles.

  • Patent number: 8967695
Abstract: An adaptable bin is provided. The adaptable bin includes a bin floor and at least two bin sidewalls. The bin floor and the bin sidewalls define a storage volume. A bin opening is defined by the bin sidewalls, and allows access to the storage volume. The adaptable bin also includes a secondary bin having at least a first tray and a second tray. The first is tray operatively attached to one of the bin sidewalls. The second tray is slidably attached to the first tray, and is slidable between a collapsed position proximal to the first tray and an expanded position distal to the first tray. Abstract: An adaptable bin includes a bin floor and at least two bin walls. The bin floor and the bin walls define a storage volume. An opening is defined by the bin walls, and allows access to the storage volume. The adaptable bin includes a moveable shelf, which has a shelf floor and a shelf connector mated to one of the bin walls. The shelf connector is rotatable, relative to the bin walls, about an axis. The moveable shelf also includes a shelf arm connecting the shelf floor to the shelf connector. The moveable shelf is selectively rotatable about the axis between a first position and a second position. The first position substantially blocks access to the bin floor from the opening. The second position allows substantially-unimpeded access to the bin floor from the opening.

  • Patent number: 8910988
Abstract: An adaptable bin includes a bin floor, at least two bin side walls, and one or more bin end walls. The bin floor, bin side walls, and bin end wall define a primary storage volume and define a bin opening allowing access to the primary storage volume. The adaptable bin also includes a secondary shelf moveable between a collapsed position and an expanded position. The secondary shelf defines a secondary storage volume in the expanded position. The secondary shelf includes a first shelf segment and a first hinge, which rotatably connects the first shelf segment to the bin end wall, and a second shelf segment and a second hinge, which rotatably connects the first and second shelf segments. The first and second shelf segments are substantially parallel to the bin end wall in the collapsed position and are substantially perpendicular to the bin end wall in the expanded position.
