  • Patent number: 7555018
Abstract: An arrangement is provided for measuring jitter between an initiating network end point and a receiving network end point. A plurality of source packets are sent from the initiating network end point with pre-determined source spacing between any two adjacent source packets to the receiving network end point At the receiving network end point, at least some of the source packets are received with a plurality of destination spacing between pairs of adjacent received packets. A jitter estimation mechanism determines the jitter between the two network end points based on the source spacing and the destination spacing.

  • Patent number: 7307952
Abstract: A method and apparatus to determine whether data flow is restricted by a sending node, a receiving node, or by a network. One embodiment of the invention comprises selectively reading a Sequence Number field (SN) and a Data Offset field (DO) from a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) header in a data packet from a sender to a receiver. Selectively reading a Total Length field (TL) and an Internet Header Length field (IHL) from an Internet protocol (IP) header in the data packet from the sender to the receiver. Selectively reading an Acknowledgment Number field (AN) and a Window field (W) from a TCP header in a data packet from the receiver to the sender. And, using at least one of the SN, DO, TL, IHL, AN, and W from a network communication session to determine whether the sender, the receiver, or whether the network restricts data flow.

  • Patent number: 7120118
Abstract: Multiple traffic management nodes may be coupled with separate networks and with a connecting network. The traffic management nodes monitor and classify traffic passing through the connecting network. Current paths through the connecting network are identified and used to build detour paths through the connecting network using traffic management nodes as detour nodes. The detour paths may be shortened, thereby excluding the detour nodes from each detour path. The traffic management nodes and the detour paths may be used to create a traffic engineered system for traffic passing through the connecting network.

  • Patent number: 7032020
Abstract: A method for determining bandwidth capacity of a test segment by sending one or more short packet bursts or streams from unique source smart nodes (SNs) over a link, which has the test segment, to one or more destination SNs. Selected source SNs send packet bursts or streams to other selected SNs at precise times so that the packet bursts or streams traverse the test segment simultaneously. Analyses of the traffic flow patterns at the destination SNs, including byte count measurements and time stamps, are used to determine the bandwidth capacity of the test segment.

  • Patent number: 6850541
Abstract: The invention is a system and method to measure network bandwidth. A source computer sends sets of packet pairs to a destination computer. Each set of packet pairs is centered around a different packet size. The destination computer times each packet pair to determine the time delta between the packets in the packet pair. The time deltas are then organized and analyzed to determine the network bandwidth.
