A short friction-type connection which is symmetrical relative to the mold parting plane is thereby established between the blow mold and the calibration cylinder during calibration so that the calibration forces are transmitted in an exact manner. The locking means swing downwards when the blow mold is opened and/or the closing unit returns to the head station. Collisions with other machine parts are thereby ruled out.

    Abstract: The invention concerns the manufacture of hollow plastic articles by inflating a preform (4) in a blowing mandrel. The aim of the invention is to reduce the so-called cycle time--the time interval between a preform (4) entering the blowing mould (1, 1') and the next preform (4) entering the same blowing mould (1, 1')--compared with prior art methods in which the initially open mould encloses the preform along the appropriate length when the preform is extruded from the blow-moulding nozzle, the mould then being transferred to a second station, adjacent to the tubular body receiving station, where the preform is inflated by insertion of an inflation and sizing mandrel. This aim is achieved by introducing the inflation gas into the preform, received by the mandrel, while the preform is being transferred from the first station, in which the tubular body is received, to the second station, in which release is effected.

    Abstract: Apparatus for recording and reproducing audio signals on flat rectangular recording media comprising a magnetic coating or the like on at least one side. A magnetic head on a swing arm moves across the magnetic media in mutually parallel lines guided by a heart-shaped cam, the recording medium being stationary during recording and reproducing so its visible surface can be examined without difficulty. The heart-shaped cam is of asymmetric configuration, and the magnetic head is pivotably mounted on one end of the swing arm which carries between its ends a cam follower peg which continually engages the heart-shaped cam while under spring loading. The other end of said swing arm is pivotably mounted on a sliding carriage plate which is moved stepwise perpendicularly to the chord of the curved path of movement of the magnetic head for each line. The stepwise perpendicular movement of the sliding carriage plate is produced by a mechanism which is controlled by the reversal of direction of the magnetic head.

    Abstract: A process and apparatus for the blow molding of oriented, hollow containers from tubular parisons in which a tubing of plastic material at a suitable orientation temperature for the material is passed by a puller assembly to a cutter assembly. The free end of the tubing is grasped by a parison transfer assembly, after which parisons are cut from the tubing by the cutter assembly and positioned by the transfer assembly for placement within blow molders. The first of two blow molders moves toward the tubing centerline from a molding position to receive a parison. The parison transfer assembly is extended vertically to place the parison within the molding cavity of the open blow molder. The upper end of the parison is grasped by a tube clamp, and as the parison transfer assembly retracts, the parison is stretched prior to molder closure. The closed blow molder returns to its molding position to complete the blow molding of a finished, oriented container.

    Abstract: A process for blow molding completely finished hollow plastic containers of biaxially oriented material and having a finished neck. A dual-diameter blow pin is positioned between separable mold sections and is movable along its longitudinal axis. A crammer sleeve is reciprocably disposed about the blow pin, and gripping jaws are positioned to close around the blow pin. One end of a heated tubular parison is positioned over a larger-diameter portion of the blow pin, and the parison is longitudinally stretched, axially orienting the material and causing the parison to neck down onto a smaller-diameter portion of the blow pin. The mold sections are closed over the stretched parison, the blow pin is longitudinally inserted to size the inside diameter of the neck opening, the crammer sleeve is inserted to cram axially-oriented material into the neck finishing cavity of the mold and to finish form the neck opening, and the tail surplus material is severed.

    Abstract: Plasticized parisons of synthetic thermoplastic material are formed in an extrusion machine from where they are transferred to a station to be pneumatically converted in the cavity of an open-and-shut premold into hollow blanks which are larger than the parison but smaller than the desired shaped article. During such pneumatic conversion the material of the parison may be subjected to shock-like cooling concomitantly with conversion into the blanks, by appropriate cooling of the premold. The hollow blanks are then transferred to an intermediate station where they are subjected to thermal tempering in two or more separate stages, in order to bring them to an optimum temperature condition for the subsequent biaxial stretching. After tempering, the tempered blanks are transferred to another station to be pneumatically converted into respective shaped articles in the cavity of another open-and-shut mold and under biaxial stretching of their material.

    Abstract: Synthetic thermoplastic parisons are extruded at a first station, transferred from the first station to a second station (by moving the extrusion machine, by moving the parison with a gripper or by moving the parison while it is confined in the cavity of a first open-and-shut mold) and converted into hollow blanks or preforms at the second station. The blanks are converted into shaped articles in the cavity of a second open-and-shut mold and the shaped articles are ejected from the second mold at a third station. The second mold can move between the second and third stations, or the blowing mandrel which cooperates with the first mold to convert parisons into blanks moves from the second to the third station to transfer the blanks from the second station into the second mold at the third station. In each instance, the mandrel which cooperates with the first mold to convert parisons into blanks also cooperates with the second mold to convert blanks into shaped articles.

    Abstract: A multi-stage blow molding method according to which parisons are extruded one after the other at an extruding station and are accepted by a first mold which transfers them from the extruding station to a first blowing station where the parisons are converted into hollow blanks. Such blanks are removed from the first blowing station by two or more additional molds which thereupon convert the blanks into final shaped articles at discrete second blowing stations. The number of blanks which are treated by each additional mold is half or less than half the total number of parisons which are being converted into blanks at the first blowing station. This insures that the time for cooling and hardening of shaped articles at the respective second blowing stations can greatly exceed the time which is allotted for partial hardening of blanks at the first blowing station.

    Abstract: Annular surplus material which is separated from a parison section in the cavity of a blow mold in response to penetration of a blowing mandrel into the neck mold of the blow mold in a blow molding apparatus is stripped off the mandrel during the last stage of movement of the mandrel to an upper end position and subsequent to complete opening of the blow mold so as to allow a freshly formed plastic container to descend by gravity and to move sideways out of alignment with the mandrel. The mandrel has a cylindrical calibrating portion which cooperates with the neck mold to press mold the neck portion of the container prior to blowing, and a smaller-diameter lower end portion which guides the container during the initial stage of gravitational descent onto a conveyor or into a receptacle.
