  • Patent number: 6394493
Abstract: A steering arrangement for a motor vehicle has a steering column tube which is arranged in a steering-wheel-side area in a height-adjustable manner relative to a vehicle-fixed console by way of an adjusting device. In a steering-gear-side area, the steering column tube is swivellably disposed on the vehicle-fixed console by way of a compensating bearing. The steering column tube is additionally held longitudinally adjustably by the adjusting device, and the compensating bearing is formed by a single suspension point which is eccentrically applied to the steering column tube and which defines the swivelling axis for the height adjustment of the steering column tube, and which, in the longitudinal direction of the steering column tube, has degrees of freedom for a displaceability of the steering column tube.

  • Patent number: 6386587
Abstract: Adjusting arrangement for a steering column tube of a steering system of a motor vehicle having a swivellably disposed clamping lever which, in a released position, unblocks or, in a locked position, blocks a longitudinal or vertical displacement of the steering column tube, and has an actuating device for the manual releasing or locking of the clamping lever, which actuating device has a grip arrangement which, in a vehicle-fixed mounted condition, is accessible from a driver seat position. A guide rail arrangement is positioned on the steering column tube and is aligned in the longitudinal direction of the steering column tube. An adjusting slide block is displaceably held on the guide rail arrangement. The slide block is moved by the grip arrangement and is connected with the clamping lever.

  • Patent number: 6206421
Abstract: A control cylinder is provided in a vehicle steering column arrangement in order to displace two jacket tube parts, displaceable telescopewise with respect to one another, relative to one another. The control cylinder includes a cylinder housing filled with a damping medium and a piston axially displaceable in a cylinder. A flexible sealing lip is provided as a sealing member for a through bore in the piston. The lip in its unloaded resting position leaves the through-flow cross section open. Upon an abrupt relative movement of the piston and cylinder housing, the level of the impact load on the fluid moves the lip into a closed position that at least largely seals off the through-flow cross section, with the deformation resistance of the sealing lip being chosen so that the sealing lip remains in its resting position during normal adjustment between the piston rod and the cylinder housing. Embodiments with multiple through bores and sealing lips are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6039350
Abstract: An adjustable telescopic steering column for motor vehicles has at least one longitudinally adjustable telescopic section which is held in an adjusted position by a locking device. In the event of a crash, the telescopic section is acted upon by an additional holding force by way of a locking part. The locking part is a component which operates independently of the locking device for the adjusted position and, in the operative position, is applied with a frictional connection to the longitudinally adjustable telescopic section.

  • Patent number: 5672111
Abstract: A steering spindle for a motor vehicle has a plug-in connection in which a splined shaft profile extends axially and is arranged at the end of a shaft, and a receiving tube which receives the splined shaft profile and is provided along its inner circumference with a corresponding splined hub profile. Furthermore, the steering spindle has, in the region of the plug-in connection, a plastic layer which extends at least along certain axial regions and fills clearances between the inner wall of the receiving tube and the splined shaft profile. The splines of the one part, arranged in the region of the receiving tube, are formed uninterruptedly in the axial direction and are an undersized portion in the circumferential direction with respect to the grooves of the other part. The splines of the one part are provided with the plastic layer of elastomeric plastic bridging this undersize portion.

  • Patent number: 5442943
Abstract: In a steering lock for motor vehicles, a lock cylinder having a rotor and a stator is received in a tubular steering lock housing. A tubular end section of the lock housing and lock cylinder is enclosed by a pot-shaped cap made from a high strength material. In the steering lock housing, in a radially displaceable arrangement, there is mounted at least one locking element which is spring-biased .in the radial outward direction to protrude into an inner ring groove of the cap to prevent axial displacement of the cap when in a locked position. The at least one locking element can be slid, in a certain rotational setting of the rotor, into a notch in the rotor and can thereupon be moved out of the inner groove of the cap. For this displacement of the locking element into the notch of the rotor, there is secured along the base of the inner groove a circumferential spring wire.

  • Patent number: 5358353
Abstract: A device and method for the equiaxial connection of multiple-part linkages includes a bush whose inside contour has a serration and whose outside contour is constructed as a dihedral profile. A flange of a coupling is slipped over the bush which has been fitted onto an end of a rod, this rod end being provided with a surface toothing. The inside contour of the flange has a dihedral profile corresponding to the bush. The device allows automated connection of steering linkages in vehicle assembly.

  • Patent number: 5113716
Abstract: A releasable locking device for a vehicle steering column adjustable in the longitudinal direction is disclosed which has a postionally fixed steering column part and a steering column section displaceable relative to the latter. A steering wheel is provided at the end of the steering column. The fixing of the steering column can be influenced by a hydraulic system which can be controlled by a mechanical actuating member. A locking device is provided which has a sealed hydraulic piston-cylinder unit which is arranged axially parallel to the steering column and is coupled between the positionally fixed steering column part and the displaceable steering column section with the cylinder chamber subjected to pressure in the case of an impact on the steering wheel being completely filled.

  • Patent number: 5002422
Abstract: A device for adjusting the angular position of rotation of a steering wheel hub of a motor vehicle relative of a steering shaft utilizing a bushing which is located between these parts and connected to each of these by sets of teeth distributed uniformly over the inner and outer periphery of the bushing and wherein these teeth offer a large number of possibilities of angular adjustment as a result of the engagement of one set of teeth with the steering wheel hub for a coarse adjustment and as a result of the engagement of the other set of teeth with the steering shaft for an even larger possibility of minor angular adjustment.
