  • Patent number: 4437644
Abstract: This invention relates to electrically operable valves and in particular, but not exclusively, to valves for use in fuel injection system for internal combustion engines. A valve has a housing 13 having a valve 3 seat, and receiving a valve body 2 which can be raised from the valve seat 3 in accordance with a variation in dimension of magnetostrictional device 7 or a piezoceramic device caused by a current flow in the device. The valve body 2 is spring-loaded, by spring 15, in a sense to close the valve and is connected via the device 7 to a movable abutment unit 10,11, which is so constituted that, during the current induced variations in dimension, it acts as a stationary abutment or anchorage for that end of the device, which is remote from the valve body.

  • Patent number: 4250721
Abstract: A heat pump including a circuit for a fluid refrigerant, comprising a compressor V, a condenser 11, an expansion valve 13, an evaporator 14, and an injector pump 15 having a mixing chamber and diffuser in which the driving fluid for the pump is mixed with the refrigerant from the evaporator before returning to the compressor. This pressurized driving fluid is tapped off from the refrigerant circuit down the stream of the condenser and is passed through a heat exchanger 23 where it is fully evaporated. The heat input to this heat exchanger being obtained from the main refrigerant flow between the condenser and expansion valve.

  • Patent number: 4215538
Abstract: An internal combustion engine has at least one outlet passage for exhausting the burned gases, terminating at the exterior surface of the engine, and, alternatively, connectable to the afterburning device or to a by-pass line by-passing the afterburning device. A control regulated as a function of temperature is provided to direct the burned gases through the by-pass line at high temperature and through the afterburning device at low temperature.

  • Patent number: 4180038
Abstract: A fuel injection system for a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine has separate ignition and continuous injection into the engine inlet duct which includes an adjustable throttle butterfly valve and a baffle flap pivoted at the side of the duct under the effect of the flow through the duct acting in opposition to a return force. The flap is coupled to a damper blade, and also to a coaxial rotary control member of a fuel metering valve, the latter comprising a control cylinder and a control piston rotating inside and in relation to the cylinder, and metering a quantity of fuel to one or more injector nozzles in proportion to the air current quantity. The control cylinder being stationary and mounted alongside the baffle flap outside the inlet duct, and the rotary control piston being connected outside the control cylinder adjacent one end to the baffle flap, and adjacent the other end to the damper blade, so as to rotate with the flap and the blade.

  • Patent number: 3990246
Abstract: A device for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy in a cycle process. A gaseous working medium is pushed from a hot space through a line containing a heater, regenerator and cooler through a cold space and thereafter pushed back through the same line into the hot space by a piston. The cold space is connected to a high pressure tank and a low pressure tank by two check valves operating in opposite directions. The pressure tanks are connected in turn to the inlet and the outlet respectively of an expansion engine.

  • Patent number: 3990233
Abstract: The invention concerns a reactor for afterburning of unburned constituents in the exhaust of an internal combustion engine, consisting of a jacketed heat-insulated reactor chamber into which at least one inlet pipe passing through the jacket and communicating with an outlet passage of the engine opens tangentially, being traversed by exhaust gases mixed with secondary air, and having an outlet pipe for escape of exhaust gases from the reactor chamber. The reactor chamber in cylindrical in shape and the inlet pipe opens into the reactor chamber tangentially and the outlet pipe is passed out of the reactor chamber tangentially from the inlet pipe in the direction offset of flow.

  • Patent number: 3941525
Abstract: A rotary piston engine of the trochoid type is provided with a housing having two end pieces and a shell having a multi-arcuate interior surface in which the piston is rotatably mounted on the eccentric of an eccentric shaft. An internal seal for the piston includes at least one scraper ring arranged to be axially movable in a concentric annular groove in one face of the piston, revolving with the piston, and pressed by spring action against the adjacent end wall of the housing.
