  • Publication number: 20070282918
Abstract: Folders of data from disparate application programs are organized in conformity to a reference taxonomy. A reference taxonomy for representing an organization of stored data found in multiple disparate application programs is created. Each application taxonomy from the multiple disparate application programs is compared to the reference taxonomy by a user. If the user decides to use the reference taxonomy, then the reference taxonomy replaces the application taxonomy for each of the multiple disparate application programs.

  • Publication number: 20070124398
Abstract: Order associated with messages is preserved in an environment wherein a message includes an associated order identifier; a receiver is operable to receive a first message associated with a first order identifier and a selection component is operable to select a first entity for processing the first message. The system includes a determination component for determining whether a notification associated with completion of processing of the first message has been received by the receiver; and a controller for controlling the selection component to select a second entity for processing the second message, in response to a combination of receipt of the notification and a second message associated with the first identifier being received by the receiver preceding the receipt of the notification.

  • Publication number: 20070038744
Abstract: To enable adaptive monitoring of the resource, metrics about the workload received at the resource from one or more clients are used to derive monitoring feedback comprising a recommendation as to how the monitoring should be performed. This is then used as input to a decision making process controlling the monitoring of the resource. The recommendation may be for the monitor to increase or decrease its monitoring interval. The resource may decide to increase or decrease its monitoring depth or checking, or may suggest a new monitoring depth to the monitor.

  • Publication number: 20060161441
Abstract: The invention relates to the coordination of application logic and an associated resource. Application logic is received from an application service provider (ASP) and a request is received from a client requesting a service from the ASP. The application logic from the ASP is matched with the client request. The application logic is used to execute the client request by accessing the resource.

  • Publication number: 20060117041
Abstract: Disclosed is a method, apparatus and computer program for determining which resource manager of a plurality of resource managers an application may be connected to, given a connection request. A connection request is received which specifies a connection scope. The connection scope specifies the desired proximity of a suitable resource manager relative to the application's location. The application's location is determined and so are any resource managers that satisfy the connection request. The connection requester is then informed of at least one resource manager which satisfies the connection request.

  • Publication number: 20060117319
Abstract: Disclosed is a method, apparatus and computer program for determining which resource manager of a plurality of resource managers are suitable for an application to connect to, one or more resource managers being suitable. A request is received from an application for a connection to a resource manager. Application hint data is accessed indicating the application's likely usage of at least one resource, each resource being owned by one of the plurality of resource managers. It is then decided which of the plurality of resource managers are suitable for the application to connect to given the application hint data, one or more resource managers being suitable.

  • Publication number: 20060100981
Abstract: An apparatus and method provide a quorum-based server power-down mechanism that allows a manager in a computer cluster to power-down unresponsive servers in a manner that assures that an unresponsive server does not become responsive again. In order for a manager in a cluster to power down servers in the cluster, the cluster must have quorum, meaning that a majority of the computers in the cluster must be responsive. If the cluster has quorum, and if the manager server did not fail, the manager causes the failed server(s) to be powered down. If the manager server did fail, the new manager causes all unresponsive servers in the cluster to be powered down. If the power-down is successful, the resources on the failed server(s) may be failed over to other servers in the cluster that were not powered down. If the power-down is not successful, the cluster is disabled.

  • Publication number: 20050021843
Abstract: The invention relates to a message broker for managing subscription requests in a multicast messaging system. The messaging system comprises a plurality of publishers publishing information to the broker and a plurality of subscribers subscribing to information received from one or more publishers. The broker is able to receive a subscription request pointing to topic information in which the requesting subscriber is interested, the topic information defining a specific topic within a topic hierarchy. The broker is able to parse the request to determine if the request includes a wildcard and if the request does include a wildcard, the broker instructs the requesting subscriber to listen on a multicast address associated with the topic in the topic hierarchy which precedes the wildcard.

  • Publication number: 20050010458
Abstract: Provided are methods, apparatus and computer programs for managing data organisation for computer programs. The method includes generating a reference taxonomy (information defining a first data organisation), accessing storage associated with a message broker to obtain a taxonomy of message topics used by the broker for routing of messages, and comparing the reference and topic taxonomies to identify matching and non-matching features within the taxonomies. The results of the comparison can then be used to generate, in response to selection of a preferred taxonomy, a modified taxonomy to replace either the reference taxonomy or the topic taxonomy. A GUI is provided to display the taxonomies and to facilitate user selections. A set of adapters provide access to the data storage of different programs and obtain taxonomy information for the different programs. A taxonomy engine compares taxonomies to identify differences and similarities, and can be used to generate a new taxonomy.

  • Patent number: 5363737
Abstract: A jettisonable adaptor for air-carried missiles is located between an aircraft-mounted launcher and a missile. The adaptor may include flight stabilization and retardation functions which are deployable on separation from the launcher. Instead of mounting fixing hooks on the missile (which would incur aerodynamic-drag) these are mounted on the adaptor instead. When stabilization has occurred the adaptor is separated from the missile.
