  • Publication number: 20160303378
Abstract: A therapy system for applying an electrical signal to an internal anatomical feature of a patient includes an implantable component and an external component. The medical device can be checked for safety issues by periodically initiating a sequence of tests of an H-bridge circuit, and, during each test, monitoring a current flow through a sensing resistor electrically connected between a sensing connection of the H-bridge circuit and a ground. Current flow through the sensing resistor indicates that both series electrical switches within at least one of the two pairs of series electrical switches are active during that test.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 27, 2016
    Publication date: October 20, 2016
Inventors: Al Almendinger, Gregory Pat Spar, Koen Jacob Weijand, Randy Maas, Stephen Ellsworth

  • Patent number: 7212133
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for configuring an external device so that may communicate with and an implantable medical device in accordance with a desired telemetry protocols. The external device utilizes a telemetry module can be loaded with a protocol driver necessary for communicating with the implantable medical device. Once the desired protocol driver has been installed in the telemetry module, the telemetry module enables communication with the implantable medical device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 20, 2005
Date of Patent: May 1, 2007
    Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.
Inventors: Steven M. Goetz, Gregory Pat Spar
  • Patent number: 7023359
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for configuring an external device so that may communicate with and an implantable medical device in accordance with a desired telemetry protocols. The external device utilizes a configurable telemetry module that comprises a protocol driver that interacts with a transmit driver and a receive driver, both of which can be configured to process a telemetry signal in accordance with the necessary telemetry protocol for communicating with the implantable medical device. Once the transmit and receive drivers are configured, the telemetry module and its associated external device, e.g., a physician programmer, are enabled to communicate with the implantable medical device.
