    Abstract: Biaxially oriented, co-extruded polyester films comprising a base layer consisting of at least 90 wt. % thermoplastic polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate (PET), at least one sealable outer layer and a second non-sealable outer layer and, optionally, other intermediate layers, in addition to at least one flame-retardant agent, preferably organic phosphorous compounds. The inventive films are characterized by low inflammability, high UV stability, no embrittlement when subjected to thermal stress and a surface which is devoid of troublesome opacity. They are suitable for a multiplicity of uses both indoors and outside. The outer layers contain anti-blocking agents such as silicic acid having an average particle diameter of preferably less than 50 nm and/or 2 ?m. Preferably, the sealable outer layer consists of a copolyester which is made of ethylene terephthalate and ethylene isophthalate units.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a transparent, low-flammability, UV-resistant, oriented film made from a crystallizable thermoplastic and having a thickness of from 5 to 300 ?m. The film comprises at least one UV stabilizer and at least one flame retardant, and at least the flame retardant, and preferably also the UV stabilizer, is fed directly as a masterbatch to the crystallizable thermoplastic during production of the film. The film may have one or more layers, and the UV stabilizer may have been selected from the group consisting of the 2-hydroxybenzophenones, the 2-hydroxybenzotriazoles, the organonickel compounds, the salicylic esters, the cinnamic ester derivatives, the resorcinol monobenzoates, the oxanilides, the hydroxybenzoic esters, the sterically hindered amines and triazines, and the flame retardant may be an organic phosphorus compound, in particular an organic phosphorus compound soluble in polyethylene terephthalate.

    Abstract: The application discloses a transparent, biaxially oriented polyester film having a base layer at least 80% by weight of which is composed of a thermoplastic polyester, and having at least one outer layer, wherein the outer layer is composed of a polymer, or of a mixture of polymers, which comprises at least 40% by weight of ethylene 2,6-naphthalate units and up to 40% by weight of ethylene terephthalate units and/or units from cycloaliphatic or aromatic diols and/or dicarboxylic acids, with the proviso that the Tg2 value of the polyester film is above the Tg2 value of the base layer but below the Tg2 value of the outer layer, and at least one film surface has a surface tension of from 35 to 65 mN/m and/or has been provided with a functional coating of thickness from 5 to 100 nm. The film has low atmospheric oxygen transmission. It is particularly suitable for packaging uses, specifically for packaging foods and other consumable items, and for laminating, metallizing and printing.
