  • Publication number: 20150036476
Abstract: A method and system for facilitating communication between an Evolved Node B (eNB) and a user equipment (UE) in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. In particular the technology addresses downlink transmission via potentially large TTI bundles. The eNB transmits a downlink grant message to the UE, indicating a pending TTI bundle for downlink transmission. The UE transmits an acknowledgement message to the eNB if the DL grant message is successfully received and decoded. The eNB aborts transmission of the TTI bundle if it fails to timely receive the acknowledgement and may reassign the network resources scheduled for use in the transmission. In some embodiments, the eNB may introduce a delay between the downlink grant message and the TTI bundle.

  • Patent number: 8924486
Abstract: The present invention provides for method, system, and apparatus for facilitating communication between a first set of networked devices, such as client devices, and a second networked device, such as a server. A query message is transmitted from a representative device of the first set of networked devices, to the second networked device. The representative device may be selected in several ways. A response message may be transmitted from the second networked device, the message comprising an indication of devices from the first set of networked devices for which communications are pending. The response message is processed and devices identified in the response message are notified.

  • Publication number: 20140334372
Abstract: A method and apparatus for communicating system information, such as SIBs, from a base station to a terminal in a wireless network such as an LTE network. The base station is configured to broadcast the system information in accordance with a standard which defines a range of allowable values for characteristics of the broadcast. A restricted range of values for the characteristics is defined as a strict subset of the range of allowable values, and repeated broadcasts of the system information are configured in accordance with the restricted range of values. The terminal uses knowledge of the restricted range of values to facilitate reception of multiple repetitions of the broadcast. The terminal then combines the multiple repetitions to facilitate recovery of the system information.

  • Publication number: 20140301296
Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding the LTE physical broadcast channel (PBCH). The transmissions are made by an evolved NodeB (eNB). At least one template symbol sequence representative of a potential transmission by the eNB over the PBCH is provided. A signal or signals transmitted over the PBCH by the eNB is received, the signal or signals indicative of a received symbol sequence. Correlation operations are performed for correlating the at least one template symbol sequence against the received symbol sequence. A representative symbol sequence, timing parameter, or both, is selected, based on the correlation operations. The representative symbol sequence is indicative of information transmitted by the eNB over the LTE PBCH. The timing parameter is indicative of timing of said information transmitted by the eNB.

  • Patent number: 8843738
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product related to an authentication security protocol, which associates a unique Abbreviated Session Identifier (ASI) with some application data packets transmitted, for example, from a client to a server. The present technology can be a modified version of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol. A method of authentication comprises an initial setup comprising negotiating a secure network connection between client and server using TLS, providing a unique ASI by the server, associating the ASI with a TLS protocol session identifier, transmitting the unique ASI and the TLS protocol session identifier to the client, and establishing the secure network connection between the client and server. Subsequent data packets transferred between the client and server may include the unique ASI.

  • Patent number: 8812730
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for network port and network address translation. Several problems with limited addressability may occur when transmitting data packets between a terminal in a first network and a terminal in a second network that is outside the first network. Data forwarding rules are used to define if and how identifiers of data packets to be forwarded between the two networks correlate with each other. According to embodiments, a data forwarding rule includes a first identifier associated with the first network and a second identifier associated with the second network, wherein each identifier has two parts: a source address and source port number corresponding to a source network node, and a destination address and destination port number corresponding to a destination network node.

  • Patent number: 8725114
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring identity information for temporary use by a wireless device, visiting a foreign operator network, is provided. A user is presented, at a kiosk, with an opportunity to download a temporary identity which is recognized by the operator network as belonging to a local subscriber, and the user may make a request for service. In response to the user-generated request for service, local identity information is transferred to the wireless device for use thereby. The transfer is short-range wireless communication from the kiosk to the wireless device. The temporary identity, once installed on the wireless device, makes the wireless device appear as a local subscriber. Upon termination of use, the temporary identity is returned to a pool and usable for another wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20140105009
Abstract: Approaches for managing machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless devices are disclosed. M2M wireless devices may be configured to utilize service classes in order to implement network access policy control. Packets generated by an application running on the wireless device are inspected, for example using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). Service class may be assigned based on patent contents such as payload, transport-layer criteria, or communication protocol in use. Service class assignment proceeds according to a rule set which may be remotely configurable. Packets may be buffered and their transmission may be deferred pending service class assignment. Spoofing of the intended recipient and/or the application may be performed while the packets are buffered and/or inspected.

  • Publication number: 20140098663
Abstract: The present technology provides a computer-implemented method and system for performing frequency selective scheduling between a user equipment (UE) and a base station. The UE selects a sub-band within a predetermined system bandwidth based on observed radio conditions. The UE then communicates the selected sub-band to the base station. The base station then selects a LTE resource block having a frequency range falling within the sub-band. The selected resource block is then used for communication between the base station and the UE. The process may be repeated at a frequency related to the channel coherence.

  • Publication number: 20140098782
Abstract: A method and system for transmitting data from a UE in an OFDM system such as LTE. Information symbols are spread using a spreading code assigned to the UE and orthogonal to spreading codes of other UEs. The assigned spreading code has a spreading factor which is variable and dynamically selected based on one or more system performance criteria. The spread information symbols are transmitted in one or more LTE resource blocks. Spreading may be performed in the time domain, over a plurality of LTE time slots and/or resource elements.

  • Publication number: 20140098781
Abstract: The present technology provides a method, apparatus and system for facilitating uplink communication from a user equipment (UE) to a base station in an LTE communication system. One or more frequency subcarriers within a predetermined LTE resource block are selected, covering less than the entire frequency range of the LTE resource block. • Publication number: 20140029493
Abstract: A method and apparatus facilitate data communication between a first device and a second device, such as an application server or Internet portal and a wireless terminal. A wireless link between devices supports communication via plural protocols, such as SMS and TCP/IP over GPRS. An interworking function (IWF) allows communication using native protocols, such as TCP/IP, but when appropriate (e.g. for small data transactions), translates messages to another protocol, such as SMS, for efficiency purposes. The IWF intercepts and responds to packets generated by the first device using the first protocol, as required. The IWF optionally selects a new protocol and generates and forwards packets, representative of the intercepted packets, to the second device. Protocol selection and/or turning the interworking function on/off can be performed dynamically based on efficiency criteria. The IWF may intercept packets before traversal of the wireless link, and may optionally reside in the wireless terminals.

  • Patent number: 8582631
Abstract: Management of communication operations of wireless devices is provided. A traffic-control parameter is generated, for example at a base station, indicative of desired aspects of communication operations of the wireless devices. The one or more traffic-control parameters may comprise a delay parameter, such as a maximum value for generating random backoff times, and/or a connection-time parameter, indicative of the maximum length of time a wireless device can hold a connection. A bit sequence indicative of the one or more traffic-control parameters is generated and communicated to the wireless devices. A wireless device determines the traffic-control parameter based on the communicated bit sequence and adapts its operation based thereon.
