  • Patent number: 7508615
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling movement of a transducer to limit its stopping time at a certain position of a disk regardless of whether the disk drive performs a read/write operation, an etching or clustering effect of a lube layer coated on the disk is prevented, thereby preventing performance degradation of the disk drive.

  • Patent number: 7032157
Abstract: A method for optimizing UDMA transfer signals parameter that functions independently of a computer system is provided. The method of the invention utilizes UDMA CRC errors to adjust an optimized UDMA transfer signal parameter. A total error rate is logged for each selected parameter for determining the parameter with the lowest total error rate. The method functions continuously, to provide reduced CRC error generation and data corruption, and enhanced UDMA transfer signal integrity.

  • Patent number: 6967809
Abstract: The invention provides magnetic disks with the ability for consecutive tracks to be read or written continuously, removing the traversal of the gap between tracks which degrades bandwidth delivery performance. The invention includes a disk surface formatted with tracks, and sectors within these tracks, which vary in radius. The ending radius of a sector differs significantly from its starting radius. The ending radius of the last sector of one track is very close to the starting radius of its successor track, providing a spiral arrangement of tracks, each possessing a fixed number of sectors, and supporting continuous accessing of successive tracks.

  • Patent number: 6275346
Abstract: A read/write channel parameter optimization technique in a hard disk drive having a read/write channel circuit reduces an error rate during a data read/write operation through optimization of read and write channel parameters, write channel parameters are optimized by searching for the optimized level of each write channel parameter in accordance with characteristics of all head/zone combinations from data write and read operations of the same number while varying levels of the write channel parameter. In read channel parameter optimization, an optimized read channel parameter combination is searched for by suppressing noise through data write and read operations of the same number on varied read channel parameter combinations.
