    Abstract: Toner particles may be produced using a semisuspension polymerization process, which includes: (a) providing a mixture of a partially polymerized monomer or comonomers near the onset of the gel-effect; (b) forming a suspension of the partially polymerized monomer or comonomers; and (c) suspension polymerizing the partially polymerized monomer or comonomers while slowly adding a second monomer or comonomers in a starved feed manner. The process may be used to produce toner particles having varied particle properties, and having a morphology ranging from core-shell and inverted core-shell microcapsules to pseudo core-shell microcapsules and to polyblend composites having a low molecular weight phase dispersed in a high molecular weight matrix.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparing copolymers which comprises, in the order stated: (1) adding monomers containing unsaturated carbon-to-carbon bonds, a first polymerization initiator, a second polymerization initiator, and a solvent to a reaction vessel; (2) purging the resulting solution with an inert gas; (3) sealing the reaction vessel and pressurizing it by addition of an inert gas to a pressure of from about 20 to about 600 kilopascals over ambient atmospheric pressure; (4) maintaining the temperature within the pressurized reaction vessel at a temperature of from about 50 to about 100.degree. C. for a period of from about 60 to about 300 minutes; (5) thereafter maintaining the temperature within the pressurized reaction vessel at a temperature of from about 80 to about 115.degree. C.

    Abstract: A process for the preparation of polymer latex particles by conducting a pre-reaction emulsification with monomer, polar comonomer, water, surfactant, chain transfer agent, and initiator; and which pre-reaction emulsification is effected at a low temperature of from about 3.degree. C. to about 35.degree. C., for example, and thereafter, effecting emulsion polymerization by heating the aforementioned emulsified mixture in a reactor at a temperature of from about 25.degree. C. to about 125.degree. C. The aforementioned reactor contents are retained at this temperature, that is 25.degree. C. to 125.degree. C. for an effective time period. Thereafter, the reaction mixture is cooled.

The toners are particularly suitable for high speed fusing, show excellent offset resistance and wide fusing latitude, and superior vinyl offset properties.
