Patent number: 7564655Abstract: An actuator with fewer components and a method of easily fabricating the actuator. The actuator includes first and second arm members stacked over each other, head gimbal assemblies respectively fixed to front ends of the pair of arm members, and a fastening mechanism fastening the pair of arm members. Each of the first and second arm members includes a core part coupled to the fastening mechanism and a blade part horizontally extending from the core part to have a different height from the core part and coupled to the head gimbal assembly. The blade part of the first arm member extends from the core part to have a greater height than the core part of the first arm member and the blade part of the second arm member extends from the core part to have a lower height than the core part of the second arm member so that a distance between the pair of blade parts of the pair of arm members can be greater than a width of a disk that is a data recording medium.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2005Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Han-rae Cho

Patent number: 7256960Abstract: A damping structure of a hard disk drive including a damping plate, attached to an upper surface of a cover member, to reduce a noise from an interior of the hard disk drive, and a resilient plate, provided to an edge of the cover member, to alleviate a shock applied to the cover member via resilient deformation of the resilient plate. The resilient plate is bent from the damping plate so as to be spaced apart from the upper surface of the cover member at a desired interval. The resilient plate is provided at a height higher than a protrusion formed along the edge of the cover member. The external shock applied to the cover member can be effectively alleviated, and the resilient plate may minimize a flaw that may be formed on the damping plate in the course of assembling the hard disk drive.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2004Date of Patent: August 14, 2007Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Han-rae Cho

Patent number: 7123474Abstract: A damping apparatus which includes a first member joined to a first object; a second member joined to a second object; and a vibration absorbing member installed between the first and second members for absorbing vibration. At least one of the first and second members is provided with elastic hooks so that the elastic hooks can be elastically caught by respective edge portions provided at the corresponding object, and the member can be joined to the corresponding object. In this structure, since at least one of the first and second objects is simply joined to the damping apparatus by using the elastic hooks, the installation process of the damping apparatus can be performed in a very simple manner. In addition, since screwing members are unnecessary in the side using the elastic hooks, the number of parts can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2003Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Han-rae Cho

Publication number: 20050185330Abstract: A disk clamping apparatus for a data storage device fixing at least one disk onto a spindle motor, and having: a clamp combined with the spindle motor and applying pressure onto the disk in a first direction, an outer circumference of the clamp contacting a first part of the disk; and a damper installed between the clamp and the spindle motor to damp impact and vibration delivered to the disk via the clamp. The damper is made of a visco-elastic material and adhered to at least one of a bottom of the clamp or an upper part of the hub. Accordingly, it is possible to damp impacts and vibration delivered to the disk via the clamp, thereby reducing an incidence of the disk bumping against a head, and reducing deterioration of performance of the head.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 23, 2004Publication date: August 25, 2005Applicant: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.Inventors: Chul-woo Lee, Tatsuo Nakamoto, Jae-myung Jung, Ki-tag Jeong, Dae-sik Hong, Han-rae Cho
