  • Patent number: 8023224
Abstract: A hard disk drive includes a base, a cover coupled to an upper portion of the base to accommodate a plurality of parts between the cover and the base, a spindle motor including a FDB (fluid dynamic bearing) having an FDB fixing portion fixed to the base and an FDB rotation portion partially inserted in an inside of the FDB fixing portion and which rotates with respect to the FDB fixing portion, a hub to support a disk, having an end portion coupled to the FDB rotation portion, and which rotates with the FDB rotation portion and a power generation portion to generate power to rotate the hub, and an anti-stick portion provided with at least one of the cover and the spindle motor and which prevents the FDB rotation portion from being restricted as the FDB rotation portion partially contacts the FDB fixing portion by an impact applied to the spindle motor when the disk rotates.

  • Patent number: 7564655
Abstract: An actuator with fewer components and a method of easily fabricating the actuator. The actuator includes first and second arm members stacked over each other, head gimbal assemblies respectively fixed to front ends of the pair of arm members, and a fastening mechanism fastening the pair of arm members. Each of the first and second arm members includes a core part coupled to the fastening mechanism and a blade part horizontally extending from the core part to have a different height from the core part and coupled to the head gimbal assembly. The blade part of the first arm member extends from the core part to have a greater height than the core part of the first arm member and the blade part of the second arm member extends from the core part to have a lower height than the core part of the second arm member so that a distance between the pair of blade parts of the pair of arm members can be greater than a width of a disk that is a data recording medium.

  • Patent number: 7256960
Abstract: A damping structure of a hard disk drive including a damping plate, attached to an upper surface of a cover member, to reduce a noise from an interior of the hard disk drive, and a resilient plate, provided to an edge of the cover member, to alleviate a shock applied to the cover member via resilient deformation of the resilient plate. The resilient plate is bent from the damping plate so as to be spaced apart from the upper surface of the cover member at a desired interval. The resilient plate is provided at a height higher than a protrusion formed along the edge of the cover member. The external shock applied to the cover member can be effectively alleviated, and the resilient plate may minimize a flaw that may be formed on the damping plate in the course of assembling the hard disk drive.

  • Patent number: 7123474
Abstract: A damping apparatus which includes a first member joined to a first object; a second member joined to a second object; and a vibration absorbing member installed between the first and second members for absorbing vibration. At least one of the first and second members is provided with elastic hooks so that the elastic hooks can be elastically caught by respective edge portions provided at the corresponding object, and the member can be joined to the corresponding object. In this structure, since at least one of the first and second objects is simply joined to the damping apparatus by using the elastic hooks, the installation process of the damping apparatus can be performed in a very simple manner. In addition, since screwing members are unnecessary in the side using the elastic hooks, the number of parts can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7088544
Abstract: A method for controlling a disk drive includes: detecting an amount of an impact applied to the disk drive, and determining whether the detected amount exceeds a critical value; reading position information of a cylinder, over which a head is positioned, when the detected amount exceeds the critical value, and suspending a command being implemented; determining whether the read cylinder number exceeds a reference cylinder number; and moving the head in an innermost peripheral direction of the disk when the read cylinder number exceeds the reference cylinder number, and moving the head in an outermost peripheral direction of the disk when the read cylinder number does not exceed the reference cylinder number.

  • Publication number: 20050185330
Abstract: A disk clamping apparatus for a data storage device fixing at least one disk onto a spindle motor, and having: a clamp combined with the spindle motor and applying pressure onto the disk in a first direction, an outer circumference of the clamp contacting a first part of the disk; and a damper installed between the clamp and the spindle motor to damp impact and vibration delivered to the disk via the clamp. The damper is made of a visco-elastic material and adhered to at least one of a bottom of the clamp or an upper part of the hub. Accordingly, it is possible to damp impacts and vibration delivered to the disk via the clamp, thereby reducing an incidence of the disk bumping against a head, and reducing deterioration of performance of the head.
