    Abstract: The invention is a detergent mixture containing: (a) 10% to 30% by weight of protein fatty acid condensate; (b) 1 % to 12% by weight of a protein hydrolyzate; (c) 3% to 20% by weight of an acylated amino acid; (d) 1% to 12% by weight of an amino acid; and (e) 0% to 3% by weight of a preservative. In addition, the composition can optionally contain (f) 0.1% to 10% by weight of a neutralizing agent; (g) 0.1% to 15% by weight of sodium chloride, potassium chloride or mixtures of both; (h) 0.1% to 15% by weight of a solvent; and (i) water. The mixture is a soft detergent suitable for uses which are in contact with the skin, are high foaming and are not affected by hard water.

    Abstract: Acylamino acids are made by a process which comprises the steps of: (1) introducing a mixture comprised of at least one amino acid or amino acid salt and an alkali source into a reaction zone; (2) adding a mixture comprised of a fatty acid halide of the formula (I): R1COX  (I) wherein R1 is an alkyl or alkenyl group having from 6 to 22 carbon atoms and X is chlorine, bromine or iodine to form a reaction mixture while continuously circulating the reaction mixture from the reaction zone through a mixing zone until all of the second mixture has been added to the reaction zone. The process guarantees uniform mixing of the reaction components without the foaming observed without the use of a mixing zone.

    Abstract: Branched, substantially unsaturated fatty alcohol sulfates are produced by a process which comprises the steps of: (a) dimerizing unsaturated C16-22 fatty acid to form a dimer fraction and a monomer fraction comprised of branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acids and straight chain saturated fatty acids, (b) removing the monomer fraction from the dimerization step, (c) converting the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acids from step (b) into the corresponding fatty acid methyl esters, (d) hydrogenating the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters with the double bonds intact to form the corresponding branched, substantially unsaturated fatty alcohols and (e) sulfating and neutralizing the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty alcohols. The fatty alcohol sulfates thus produced exhibit improved performance properties and greater oxidative stability than standard unsaturated fatty alcohol sulfates.
