    Abstract: The invention provides a color negative photographic element comprising a transparent support bearing at least two light sensitive silver halide emulsion layers sensitive to blue light, at least two such layers sensitive to green light, and at least two such layers sensitive to red light, wherein at least one of the red sensitive emulsion layers is spectrally sensitized with both a particular first carbocyanine dye (I) which contains both a thiazole and an oxazole ring and a particular second carbocyanine dye (II) which contains two thiazole rings.The element of the invention is advantageous in allowing an increased efficiency of silver removal during the bleaching step of the development process.

    Abstract: The invention provides a multicolor photographic element comprising a support bearing at least two silver halide emulsion layers having different sensitivities to blue light, a silver halide emulsion layer sensitive to green light, and a silver halide emulsion layer sensitive to red light, wherein:(1) the element comprises a compound of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, independently represent H, an alkyl group or an aryl group, provided that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may be joined to form a ring;R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl, aryl, and acyl groups;R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, alkyl, and aryl groups;n is 1 or 2;and(2) the silver halide emulsion layer of the element that is most sensitive to blue light contains a silver halide grain population such that from 3 to 20 wt % of the total silver halide grains in the emulsion layer have a size (equivalent circular diameter) less than 0.2 micrometers.

    Abstract: A photographic element including a support and first and second green-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers of different sensitivity, wherein the layer of higher sensitivity includes a two-equivalent magenta dye-forming coupler selected from the group consisting of a pyrazolone coupler having a structure according to formula I and a pyrazoloazole coupler having a structure according to formula II as set forth in the disclosure, and the layer of lower sensitivity includes a two-equivalent magenta dye-forming coupler selected from the group consisting of couplers defined by formulas I and II. The activity of the magenta dye-forming coupler present in the layer of lower sensitivity is less than the activity of the coupler present in the layer of higher sensitivity. The layers of higher and lower sensitivity do not comprise magenta couplers which are defined by the same formula.

Such a DIR coupler is especially useful in a color photographic silver halide material and process which enables the dye formed from the DIR coupler to be washed out of the photographic material upon processing and enhanced color saturation through interimage effects.

These compositions are useful as dye mordants in photographic elements.
