Publication number: 20170318602Abstract: A method in a network node relating to a process of controlling a data transfer related to video data of a video streaming service from a server to a wireless device is provided. The network node and wireless device operates in a wireless communications network. The network node determines a scheduling weight value for the wireless device to be used in the data transfer based on a target rate scheduling weight value and a proportional rate fair weight value. The network node then determines a size of data segment to be used in the data transfer based on at least part of the scheduling weight value. The network node further determines a pending data volume for the transferring of the video data to a play back buffer of the wireless device based on at least part of the scheduling weight value.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2014Publication date: November 2, 2017Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Min WANG, Hans HANNU

Patent number: 9521700Abstract: Control of transitions between radio resource control, RRC, states for a wireless terminal in a radio access network is described. The radio resource control states comprise a first state and a second state. A calculation (702) is made of a prediction of an inter-arrival time, ITB, between data bursts to be handled. A detection (704) that a data burst is to be handled is done and then it is decided (706) whether to make a transition from the first state to the second state essentially immediately and upon termination of handling of the detected data burst if the prediction of the ITB is greater than a current ITB threshold. The current ITB threshold is a time interval that is depending on a function of RRC state transition costs and the fractional distribution of true predictions and false predictions of a plurality of predicted ITB values in relation to recorded ITB values.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2012Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSONInventors: Hans Hannu, Jan Christoffersson

Patent number: 9474078Abstract: Embodiments herein include a method in a server for scheduling of an information transmission from an information providing device to a subscriber equipment in a communication system. The method comprises determining a moment in time at which the subscriber equipment desires information. Also, an estimation of the communication intensity in the communication system at the determined moment in time is obtained. If the estimated communication intensity exceeds a certain threshold value, an appropriate period in time for the information providing device to send desired information to the subscriber equipment is calculated, based on the communication intensity in the communication system. Furthermore, a trigger signal is sent to the information providing device, requesting the information providing device at what moment in time to provide information to the subscriber equipment. A method in an information providing device is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2014Date of Patent: October 18, 2016Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Per Synnergren, Hans Hannu

Patent number: 9380619Abstract: A method is provided in a node in a radio access network for packet data communication in a wireless communication network, the method includes intercepting, by the node, a first PDP context message between a mobile station and a core network. The message includes PDP context related information. The interception is performed to detect the PDP context related information. The method further includes establishing, by the node, based on the intercepted PDP context related information, a second PDP context between the node and the mobile station, thus enabling prioritizing packets in the radio access network. The disclosure also concerns a corresponding apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2011Date of Patent: June 28, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M EricssonInventors: Stefan Wänstedt, Hans Hannu, Jonas Pettersson

Patent number: 9351132Abstract: The present invention is directed towards providing event-triggered communication in a half duplex communication environment of a wireless communication network (10). A first end terminal (12) sends a selection of an end terminal (14) in a group of terminals to act as an event notifying device to a server (22). The event notifying device (14) compares an event with a threshold and sends an event notifier to the server if the event exceeds the threshold. If it receives the event notifier, the server prioritises data from the event notifying device over ongoing communication sessions for other devices in the group, receives data from the event notifying device associated with the event notifier and transports data indicative of the event to other devices of the group, in order to inform them of the event.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2005Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Hans Hannu, Tomas Jönsson, Per Synnergren

Patent number: 9332550Abstract: A user equipment, UE, in a radio communication network is given a threshold time value that the UE uses to decide whether it should trigger a fast dormancy request to a network node or not. The determination of the threshold time value can be adapted so that it minimizes UE battery consumption when the load in the network node is low and at other times minimizes the load on the network node. That is, if the UE estimates that a predicted time interval until reception of a data burst is less than threshold time value it will not trigger a fast dormancy request, and if the estimated time interval is larger than the threshold time value it will trigger a fast dormancy request. Since the network typically controls state switching, there is a large benefit for the UE to comply with the scheme, otherwise the network may not obey the UEs wish to be down switched by the fast dormancy request.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2012Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Hans Hannu, Jan Christoffersson

Patent number: 9220126Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for controlling a number of user equipments operating in a cellular network. The method comprises receiving an indication that a rise-over-thermal (RoT) measured in a cell is above a threshold. In response to reception of the indication, it is determined (52) if a user equipment, which is in a Radio Resource Control, RRC, state CELL_DCH and served by the cell, has a low data activity in the uplink According to the method, a user equipment, which is in the RRC state CELL_DCH, is served by the cell and is determined to have a low data activity in the uplink, is triggered (54) to change state to a RRC state CELL_FACH. Thereby the contribution of the user equipment to the RoT of the cell may be reduced and it may be possible to avoid dropping users due to congestion control in case of unacceptably high RoT in the cell.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2011Date of Patent: December 22, 2015Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Marten Ericson, Jan Christoffersson, Hans Hannu, Andreas Hoglund, Min Wang

Patent number: 9092319Abstract: The present invention relates to management of a state memory in a communications unit. The state memory then stores states that are used in message-based communication with external units in a communications system. The data message communicated between the units are defined into multiple message classes. Furthermore, the state memory is divided into multiple memory portions, where each such memory portion is assigned to store states associated with a specific message class. This will prevent overwriting important states with less useful states.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2013Date of Patent: July 28, 2015Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Jan Christoffersson, Hans Hannu

Patent number: 8948106Abstract: A node (26) of a radio access network (24) and method of operating such node controls transitions between radio resource control states for a wireless terminal (30). In an example embodiment and mode the method comprises: (1) upon completion of a data activity, making a prediction of a data transmission parameter; (2) making an assessment regarding probable accuracy of the prediction; and (3) using the assessment to make a determination whether or not to implement a radio resource control state switch (the “state switch”).
