  • Patent number: 6462702
Abstract: A Doppler-based radar system and related method are provided for determining the direction and speed of at least one selected target traveling in the same lane as a moving patrol vehicle supporting the radar system independent of the direction of the target relative to the platform. The radar system includes an oscillator to generate a signal, an antenna to transmit the signal toward the at least one target and to receive a return signal reflected from the at least one target, a turnstile in communication with the antenna for receiving the return signal and forming processing signals which are different in phase, and circuitry for determining the direction of the at least one target relative to the platform and the speed of the at least one target dependent upon a mode of operation of the radar system.

In particular, samples of the processing signals are transformed into the frequency domain and cross-correlated forming cross-correlation components.

  • Patent number: 6008752
Abstract: A Doppler-based radar system used to determine the speed of a selected moving target includes an array of selectable filters and related method for determining the speed of the selected moving target traveling in the same lane as a moving patrol vehicle supporting the radar system independent of the direction of the target relative to the platform. This allows the speed of the target vehicles traveling in the same lane and in the same direction as the patrol vehicle to be monitored without manual assistance from the operator. The radar system is further adapted in a stationary mode of operation to determine the speed of a selected moving target independent of the location of the patrol vehicle. This is accomplished by selectively filtering either all approaching or receding targets depending upon the traffic scenario.

  • Patent number: 5422485
Abstract: A calibration device, method and apparatus is provided for checking calibration of a breath alcohol measuring instrument. A silicon wafer with an anti-reflective silicon monoxide coating on both sides is used to attenuate the infrared radiation in the range of 3.35 to 3.80 microns wavelength in a manner to simulate the attenuation caused by a breath sample containing 0.10 BrAC. A comparison of the signal generated by the attenuation at a wavelength of approximately 3.48 microns is made to the baseline signal obtained before placing the calibration disk in the IR beam path and accurately simulates the breath sample. The related breath alcohol measuring method and apparatus provides for the positioning of the composite disk in the path between the infrared source and receiver. A computer compares the signals and performs the calibration check, as well as the actual BrAC analysis.

  • Patent number: 4651319
Abstract: A multiplexing arrangement is described for use in a digital communications system, in which it is desired to multiplex plural user data inputs into a single serial digital communications channel and then to decode the data to the appropriate user data outputs. The arrangement contemplates the transmission of data in blocks of n.sup.2 bits, and provides framing in the form of a frame alignment word having the value of F for n bits, followed by n-1 subsequences each of n bits duration and each initiated by a framing bit having the value of F-bar, with the last subsequence terminating with a framing bit having the value of F-bar. The implementation is simple and provides rapid acquisition of the framing. In principle, the framing is error free in not being affected by the values assigned to the data.
