  • Patent number: 4785630
Abstract: An arrangement for controlling the charging pressure of an exhaust gas turbocharger in which the turbine driving the compressor is adapted to be regulated by means of a by-pass valve that is acted upon with control pressure by an electromagnetic timing valve. The timed cycle duration variable by a control apparatus in dependence on the deviation from the desired charging pressure of the internal combustion engine. For reasons of operating safety, two control lines with slightly different pressure levels and each consisting of a control apparatus, of a timing valve and of a control pressure line are connected with a shifting valve, from which a common control pressure line leads to the by-pass valve.

  • Patent number: 4626170
Abstract: A propulsion aggregate for an aircraft consisting of a multicylinder-injection internal combustion engine and of a propeller with adjustable blade pitch driven either directly by the engine or by way of a speed reduction gear. The internal combustion engine is equipped with a commercially available continuously operating fuel injection system which for safety reasons and for designing for optimum aircraft operation, is additionally provided with additional control installations. A throttle valve in the suction line of the internal combustion engine, the blade pitch of the propeller and, in case the internal combustion engine is charged by a turbocharger, also the charging pressure are adjustable by a common adjusting mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4563985
Abstract: The cam shaft carried in the cylinder head is driven by the crank shaft with a gear drive that is borne or supported partly in the crank housing and partly in a gear housing flangely attached to the crank housing. In order to compensate for the thermal induced increase in the distance of the cam shaft with respect to the crank shaft and to hold the torsional flank play at the gear teeth constant, the gear wheel engaging with the cam shaft gear wheel is arranged on a line extending approximately perpendicularly to the connection line between the cam shaft and the crank shaft.

  • Patent number: 4523568
Abstract: A continuously operating fuel injection installation which includes an air-quantity measuring device in the suction pipe and a fuel-quantity distributor controlled thereby, is equipped for use with a multi-cylinder aircraft engine, with an auxiliary device that serves to achieve the best possible power output, fuel economy and flight safety; for that purpose, a height control pressure regulator is connected to the control pressure line leading to the fuel-quantity distributor in parallel to a warm-up regulator, which meters the control pressure and therewith the fuel admixture corresponding to the air density changing with temperature and pressure; by interconnecting a fixed throttle between the control pressure line and the fuel return line to the fuel tank, an emergency operation of the engine is assured in case of failure of both regulators.

  • Patent number: 4355617
Abstract: An arrangement to eliminate the disadvantage of explosions caused by intake line backfiring resulting under cold engine starting conditions of internal combustion engines equipped with fuel injection systems of the type that inject, under cold starting conditions, additional fuel in finely divided form into the manifold intake pipe. In an improved fuel injection system, a fuel distribution arrangement comprising a fuel admitting portion communicating with an injection nozzle, and fuel feed components each of which extends from the admitting portion to a corresponding one of a plurality of intake lines to the engine is provided in the manifold intake pipe.

  • Patent number: 4091620
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas turbocharger which includes an exhaust gas turbine and a charging blower driven by the exhaust gas turbine. A secondary air pump is associated with the internal combustion engine for afterburning of the exhaust gases with a regulating valve, controlled by the combustion air pressure, being effective to supply secondary air from the secondary air pump into either the exhaust gas line upstream of the exhaust gas turbine or discharging of the secondary air into the atmosphere in dependence upon the combustion air pressure.

  • Patent number: 4084565
Abstract: An improved combustion air supply apparatus is provided for an internal combustion engine. An air supply line for supplying combustion air to the engine is provided with a load regulating throttle valve disposed therein. In by-passing relationship to the throttle valve, a by-pass line and supplementary air valve control mechanism is provided for controlling flow of additional air in by-passing relationship to the throttle valve as a function of the suction pressure in said air supply line downstream of the throttle valve.

  • Patent number: 4044560
Abstract: An air pressure regulating arrangement for regulating charging air pressure of an internal combustion engine which is provided with an exhaust gas turbo-charger including a charging blower and an exhaust turbine. A pressure regulating device responding to charging pressure of a charging blower operates a control device arranged in an exhaust channel by passing the exhaust turbine with the charging air pressure between the charging blower and a load regulating member of the internal combustion engine being monitored so that, upon exceeding a predetermined charging air pressure, the fuel supply to the internal combustion engine is interrupted until such time as the charging air pressure is decreased to the predetermined air pressure whereupon the fuel supply to the engine is then restored.
