  • Patent number: 6928134
Abstract: An apparatus admits gas into the primary coolant of a pressurized water nuclear reactor having a coolant loop for a liquid coolant, in particular water, to which hydrogen is to be added. The coolant loop preferably includes a volume control tank for the coolant as well as at least one high-pressure pump which admits coolant that has been extracted from the coolant loop back into the coolant loop again. An admission point for the hydrogen is located in a suction line on the suction side of the high-pressure pump. A measurement line on the pressure side of the high-pressure pump communicates with the volume control tank or with a dewatering system. A device for measuring the hydrogen content in the coolant is incorporated into the measurement line. The measuring device is connected through a control device to a control valve, with which the delivery of hydrogen to the admission point can be controlled. The gas admission apparatus assures a definite, precisely maintained hydrogen content in the coolant.

  • Patent number: 4139420
Abstract: Treatment of liquid waste contaminated with volatile radioactive substances under both acid and alkaline conditions in a single unit consisting of a still with connecting superposed column of spaced bubble-cap type plates. The pH of the liquid in the still is different from the pH of liquid reflux in an intermediate group of plates in the column facilitating scrubbing out of the volatile radioactive substances. An intermediate loop for circulating liquid from the bottom plate of the intermediate group to the top plate of the intermediate group at controlled pH is provided for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 4043865
Abstract: A pressurized-water reactor coolant treatment system continuously removes a portion of the coolant circulating in the main coolant loop and passes it through a gas separator and a rectification column, among other equipment, and returns the coolant to the main coolant loop. By passing the removed coolant first through the rectification column and thereafter through the gas separator and providing means for controllably shutting off the separator and bypassing the removed flow around the gas separator for passage of the flow from the rectification column back to the loop, it is possible to subject the coolant to both rectification and degassing when the coolant requires such treatment, and when the coolant does not require degassing to shut down the gas separator and put it out of operation. Other features are included.

  • Patent number: 3964965
Abstract: A pressurized-water reactor has a coolant degassing facility separating gases from the coolant. These gases include noble gases and cannot be disposed of directly to the atmosphere. The noble gases are separated from the other gases and stored, and being of small volume relative to the other gases, their storage facility can be of small size while accommodating a prolonged reactor operating time. The reactor installation includes a coolant gas charging facility and some of the gases from which the noble gases are separated may be used to supply this facility. Excess gases involve no unusual problems concerning their discharge to the atmosphere.
