  • Patent number: 6734649
Abstract: A motor current controller for a permanent magnet AC motor achieves a decrease in bandwidth variations that would otherwise be caused by temperature changes. The current controller dynamically modifies the integral gain of a proportional-integral regulator in response to temperature-induced changes in motor resistance. The integral gain value is calculated to maintain a substantially constant loop bandwidth within a current loop primarily comprising the permanent magnet AC motor, semiconductor switches connected in an H-bridge configuration, and the proportional-integral regulator.

  • Patent number: 6731085
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a motor fault in an electric motor (50) determines a calculated rotor position (&thgr;calc) of the electric motor. The calculated rotor position (&thgr;calc) is compared to a measured rotor position (&thgr;meas) of the electric motor (50) to determine a rotor position error (&thgr;err). A motor fault in the electric motor (50) is determined when the rotor position error (&thgr;err) exceeds a predetermined maximum rotor position error (&thgr;err—max).
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 4, 2004
    Assignee: TRW Inc.
Inventors: Hemant M. Sardar, Abbas A. Fardoun
