  • Patent number: 6465906
Abstract: A device for aligning an optical axis of a light source according to the change of attitude of a vehicle is described. The device is of simple construction and is positionally accurate. In an embodiment, a controller 18 performs an alignment operation according to an output signal from a vehicle height sensor 10 and an alignment command signal (PWM signal). The PWM signal has a pulse duration that has been modulated according to this operation, and the result is input to a D/A converter 20. A transistor Q of a D/A converter 20 responds to the PWM signal and performs a switching operation, and a signal accompanying this switching operation is smoothed by a charge and discharge circuit comprising resistance R1 and R2, and a condenser C. The smoothed signal is output from both ends of the condenser C to an actuator 14, and a motor 26 is driven to rotate according to the deviation between the output of a potentiometer 24 and the voltages at both ends of the condenser C.

  • Patent number: 6450673
Abstract: A head lamp auto-leveling system can be used inexpensively and for a long term by reducing the frequency in the drive of actuators, and which does not arouse an unpleasant feeling in the driver. An implementation of the auto-leveling system includes head lamps whose optical axis L is tilted vertically with respect to a vehicle body by a drive of an actuator 10, a control portion 16 for controlling the drive of actuators 10, a speed sensor 12, a height sensor 14, and a memory portion 20 for storing pitch angle data detected by the height sensor 14. The control portion 16 controls the actuators 10 based on the detected pitch angle data such that optical axes L are brought into a predetermined tilted state with respect to a road surface. The control portion 16 also decides a stable vehicle posture to control (level) the drive of the actuators 10 during both stop and running states if the difference between a plurality of moving average pitch angle data (e.g.

  • Patent number: 6183118
Abstract: An automobile headlamp automatic leveling apparatus is provided. A headlamp whose light axis is tilted upward and downward in relation to a vehicle body by means of an actuator, a control unit for controlling the operation of the actuator, vehicle speed detection means for detection of the speed of the vehicle; and pitch angle detection means for detecting a pitch angle of the vehicle are included in the leveling apparatus. The control unit controls the operation of the actuator on the basis of a detected pitch angle such that the light axis of the headlamp maintains a constant, predetermined angle in relation to the road surface. While the vehicle is stationary, the control unit controls operation of the actuator at the time of illumination of the headlamp. Subsequently, while the vehicle remains stationary, the operation of the actuator is controlled at given time intervals which are counted by an interval timer.
