  • Patent number: 6081618
Abstract: The connected element extraction device stores a binary image signal as binary image data; calculates a rectangle circumscribing a connected element; determines whether the rectangle overlaps with others and stores the label and coordinates of an overlapping rectangle; generates a label image of the overlapping rectangle; based on the label image, divides the overlapping rectangle as a parent rectangle into child rectangles and repeatedly subdivides the child-rectangle into final child rectangles which respectively have a single label; and outputs information comprising the binary image data, and the coordinates of the non-overlapping rectangle, parent-rectangle and final child-rectangles.

  • Patent number: 5937091
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assigning a temporary label to each connected area in an image by scanning the image by using a window which has a size of two pixels in the vertical direction and of a plurality of pixels in the horizontal direction. A set of values of pixels contained in the above window is obtained and one of predetermined temporary label assignment rules corresponding to the obtained set of pixel values is selected. A temporary label is assigned to each pixel contained in the window, based on the above one of the temporary label assignment rules determined as above, and based on temporary labels of pixels in the second group in the window at the above each location. In addition, the temporary labels are converted to true labels, by scanning the image pixel within the at least one circumscribing area only, where each circumscribing area is predetermined so that the at least one circumscribing area contains all pixels which do not belong to a background area in the image.

  • Patent number: 5790713
Abstract: A three-dimensional computer graphics image generator has an image input unit for inputting an image of a 3-D object into the CG image generator; a display unit for displaying the input image; a characteristic point indication unit for externally specifying characteristic points on the displayed image; and a 3-D object recognition unit for providing 3-D data according to the characteristic-point-added input image. According to the 3-D data, the 3-D CG image generator provides a 3-D CG image that faithfully represents the object.

  • Patent number: 5414474
Abstract: Apparatus which recognizes a shape and movement of a moving body based on position data of feature points in an image of the moving body in an orthogonal projection image of the moving body. The moving body recognition apparatus includes a feature point position normalization unit for providing normalized coordinates of a feature point by determining an image capture plane of the moving body as the XY plane, a direction in which an orthogonal projection image of a rotation axis of the moving body formed on the image capture plane as the Y axis and a direction of an image capture operation as a Z axis perpendicular to the XY plane and a rotation axis calculation unit for calculating the angle between the axis of rotation of the moving body and the Y axis.
