Publication number: 20100296026Abstract: An LCD device using LEDs as light sources provided herein is capable of reducing the manufacturing cost and the power consumption by a reduction in the number of LEDs used. A backlight according to the present invention includes LEDs mounted on a wiring board and a light guide plate having a matrix array of light guide plate blocks assigned the LEDs. The number of LEDs assigned to the block located in a peripheral area is smaller than the number assigned to the block located around the center to reduce the number of LEDs used in the backlight. If a ratio of the brightness in a peripheral area of the screen to the brightness in a central area is 60% or higher, the human eye does not perceive non-uniform luminance. Thus, the manufacturing cost and the power consumption of the LCD device can be reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2010Publication date: November 25, 2010Inventors: Hidenao KUBOTA, Satoshi Ouchi

Publication number: 20100245711Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device having a direct-lighting backlight using LEDs as a light source, the number of LEDs is reduced without causing unevenness in brightness. An LED is disposed under a cylindrical lens to be closer to one end of the lens than a middle part of the lens. Light emitted from the LED is outputted, as diffused light, upward from an end diffusion surface of the lens. A portion of the top surface of the lens makes up a total reflection surface to reflect light emitted from the LED and thereby cause the reflected light to head for the other end of the lens. Diffusion surfaces formed on the top surface and the bottom surface of the lens radiate diffused light upward of the lens, causing uniform light to be radiated from the whole top surface of the lens.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2009Publication date: September 30, 2010Inventors: Hidenao KUBOTA, Seiji Murata, Satoshi Ouchi, Yoshiharu Yamashita, Nobuo Masuoka

Publication number: 20100194787Abstract: White noise images and white noise-like pattern images are discerned by making use of the fact that the address current is increased when such an image is entered and detecting the address current by an address current detection circuit. When the detected address current exceeds a given value ? and persists for a given period of time, a CPU controls a contrast control circuit to lower the contrast of the video signal, thus reducing the power consumption of an address driver circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 9, 2009Publication date: August 5, 2010Inventors: Toshihiro TSUTSUI, Hidenao Kubota, Hirohito Kuriyama, Yuzo Nishinaka

Publication number: 20100079049Abstract: A plasma display device refines contrast, suppresses moiré, and maintains mechanical strength against shocks from the outside of the device. A front panel is disposed at a distance D from the front of the plasma display panel. A contrast refine film in which light absorption parts and light transmission parts extending in the same direction as scanning electrodes, discharge sustaining electrodes, and the like, which are formed on the plasma display panel, are formed with a certain pitch is stuck to the front substrate of the plasma display panel. This helps to refine contrast and suppress moiré below a proper level. An antireflection film, a color tone film, an electromagnetic radiation preventing film, a near-infrared absorption film, and the like are all disposed in the front panel. This helps to prevent deterioration of each optical film during operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2009Publication date: April 1, 2010Inventors: Hidenao Kubota, Kazuhiro Kaizaki, Daisuke Honda

Publication number: 20090237602Abstract: A face plate on which a frame is formed for improved design aesthetics is bonded to a top surface of an upper polarizer of a liquid crystal display panel with a pressure-sensitive adhesive material. The frame on the face plate is formed from five layers of printing. The pressure-sensitive adhesive material has a three-layer structure having a first pressure-sensitive adhesive member, a base material, and a second pressure-sensitive adhesive member. The first pressure-sensitive adhesive member is formed thicker than the second pressure-sensitive adhesive member, and hence the pressure-sensitive adhesive material can maintain a necessary thickness above the frame formed on the face plate. The reliability of adhesion between the face plate and the liquid crystal display panel is thus improved.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2009Publication date: September 24, 2009Inventors: Hidenao Kubota, Hiroaki Miwa

Publication number: 20090002607Abstract: The present invention mechanically protects a surface of a miniaturized liquid crystal display device for mobile phone or the like without deteriorating image quality and without increasing a thickness of a whole display device. To achieve such an object, in the present invention, a liquid crystal display panel is constituted of a TFT substrate and a color filter substrate, a lower polarizer is adhered to a lower surface of the TFT substrate, and an upper polarizer is adhered to an upper surface of the color filter substrate. A face plate is adhered to the upper polarizer using an acrylic adhesive material which is cured by ultraviolet rays. For enhancing strength and adhesion property of the face plate, corners and side portions of the face plate are chamfered. By making a profile of the face plate smaller than a profile of the upper polarizer, the adhesion property of the face plate is enhanced.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2008Publication date: January 1, 2009Inventors: Hidenao Kubota, Takahiro Yamada
