  • Patent number: 7171250
Abstract: An image generating methodology for displaying brain activation areas with improved accuracy in a living body light measurement system for generating an image of the changes in blood volume of the brain. A spatial intensity distribution of changes in blood volume can be generated by detecting brain activation in many sampling points, and a spatial interpolation process is executed on this data. A threshold process is executed on the distribution to extract the distribution of coordinates having a signal intensity of at least the predetermined threshold. The displacement between the brain activation area and the maximal location of the distribution is stored in a recording unit of the system in order to compensate for the distribution extracted by the threshold process. Accordingly, brain activation areas can be estimated with greater location accuracy, and the diagnosis and medial treatment for brain diseases can likewise be executed with greater accuracy.

  • Publication number: 20040191747
Abstract: The training of a trainee is performed in response to an instruction from a training task presentation (110) and the trainee responds by using a trainee's response collection unit (111). At the same time, a brain activity measurement unit (101) and a signal converter (103) using a cable (102) for transmitting signals of brain activity measure the brain activity of the trainee. Through a comparison between a response from the trainee and the result of brain activity measurement, a training effect is evaluated and a next training task to be performed is determined. For optimum training, the training is evaluated based on both of a training effect which can be evaluated from the outer appearance and brain activity corresponding thereto.

  • Patent number: 5328843
Abstract: Apertures in a definite shape having a definite width and length are provided on one surface of a plate material having a definite thickness. One end of the apertures is connected with the other surface of the plate material and at the same time, is opened. Another end of the apertures is connected with the plate material on one surface and is also opened toward the other surface of a culture substrate. The plate material is closely contacted to one surface of the culture substrate for allocating nerve cells and observing growth of the neurites. Then, the cell suspension is supplied to the apertures. The cells in the suspension are allocated on the culture substrate in response to the apertures by centrifugation or spontaneous sedimentation. The plate material is then withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 5304483
Abstract: Stable, long-term cultures of animal cells are accomplished by calculating the ratio of lactic acid formed by the cells to the glucose consumed by the cells (the L/G ratio) and controlling the cultivation conditions to maintain the L/G ratio between the limits of from greater than 0 to 0.6. When the ratio is outside the desired range, the dissolved oxygen concentration in the medium is increased and/or the glucose concentration in the medium is decreased.
