  • Patent number: 9892121
Abstract: An application-aware, automated and proactive approach to event-based data analysis and management of data is disclosed. Events are operations directed at stored file content as specified by applications. The tracking of the events allows for the file types of the file content associated with the events to be determined for individual applications as event patterns which are managed as templates. For a set of events that match one of the templates, the appropriate timing to perform data management can be determined according to the event pattern and file types thereof as specified by the template. Further, plural templates can be correlated to define a workflow of plural applications by the event patterns thereof. Workflows are used to predict whether all applications have completed accessing the files associated therewith. Data management can then be executed on the files of the completed workflow.

  • Patent number: 9760970
Abstract: In some examples, a video analysis framework receives one or more video streams including a plurality of video frames. The framework may perform region detection on the frames, and may perform feature detection/extraction on the regions. Based on the extracted features, the individual video frames may be sent to particular pipelines of a plurality of pipelines designated for performing different video analysis tasks. The framework may determine respective indexed profiles to associate with particular detected regions for indexing the individual video frames or regions thereof. In some cases, resources may be allocated among the pipelines based on a priority definition. For instance, the priorities in the priority definition may be updated dynamically based on context of the received frames. Further, a log of recent video analysis results may be maintained to enable indexing, annotation, augmentation, and searching for related content without having to access information in a storage system.

  • Patent number: 9672740
Abstract: A method and system that provides detouring services to passengers and transportation operators. Transportation operators send data indicating prior uses of the operator to the passengers' mobile device and the system on the mobile device compiles the data to form travel patterns of the passenger. The travel patterns are assigned a probability indicating the frequency the travel pattern is used by the passenger. When a disruption of a service of an operator occurs, a detouring service provides detour suggestions to the passengers and travel demand changes to the operators. In another approach, an in-station display displays suggested detour routes based on the top destinations of stranded passengers and the passenger's mobile phones are not used to display or perform detouring.

  • Publication number: 20170040040
Abstract: There is provided a video information processing system comprising: a target recognition module configured to detect, from among the plurality of still images, still images in which a search target is present based on a determination of a similarity degree with registration data of the search target using a first threshold; and a time band determination module configured to determine, in a case where an interval between the still images in which the search target is determined as being present is a second threshold or less, that the search target is also present in a still image between the still images in which the search target is determined as being present. The video information processing system registers a start time and an end time of the continuous still images in which the search target is determined as being present in association with the registration data of the search target.

  • Publication number: 20160275123
Abstract: Some examples include a pipeline manager that creates pipeline queues across data nodes in a cluster. The pipeline manager may assign a pipeline queue connection to contiguous map-reduce jobs so that a reduce task of a first map-reduce job sends data to the pipeline queue, and a map task of a second map-reduce job receives the data from the pipeline queue. Thus, the map task of the second job may begin using the data from the reduce task of the first job prior to completion of the first job. Furthermore, in some examples, the data nodes in the cluster may monitor access success to individual pipeline queues. If the access attempts to access successes exceeds a threshold, a data node may request an additional pipeline queue connection for a task. Additionally, if a failure occurs, information maintained at a data node may be used by the pipeline manager for recovery.

  • Patent number: 9367265
Abstract: In a storage system 1, a storage apparatus A having a first pool 1430 including segments as unit storage areas and a storage apparatus B having a second pool 1430 having the same configuration are communicably connected to each other. In the storage system, an external volume identifier is associated with a logical volume 1420 included in the first pool 1430, the external volume identifier being used by a controller 1500 in the storage apparatus B to identify and manage the logical volume 1420 as an external volume 1425 that is a virtual volume in the storage apparatus B. Moreover, a volume identifier 5110 of the logical volume 1420 included in the first pool 1430 is rewritten into the external volume identifier in order to enable the storage apparatus B to utilize the logical volume 1420 created from the first pool 1430.

  • Patent number: 9342529
Abstract: An aspect of the invention is directed to a plurality of MDSs (metadata servers) in a distributed storage system which includes data servers storing file contents, each MDS having a processor and a memory and storing file system metadata. Directories of a file system namespace are distributed to the MDSs through referral directories referring to real directories using hash value of inode number of each of the referral directories. During a process to create a directory in the file system namespace, a first MDS dynamically creates a referral directory in the first MDS, and creates a real directory in a second MDS, the referral directory in the first MDS referring to the real directory in the second MDS by maintaining location information of the real directory in the second MDS, the real directory in the second MDS containing the file system metadata for the directory in the file system namespace.

  • Patent number: 9197703
Abstract: An MDS (metadata server) in a distributed storage system includes data servers (DSs) storing file contents and one or more MDSs performing metadata operations in response to metadata requests of different types, the MDS including a controller having a processor and a memory, the MDS storing file system metadata. The controller is configured to: classify the metadata operations into different categories, which include a normal category and one or more special categories different from the normal category, the normal category having a primary stage which does not involve communication between the MDS and a component external to the MDS; for each special category, partition each metadata operation into a plurality of stages at least one of which involves communication between the MDS and a component external to the MDS; and dynamically assign resources to each of the partitioned stage based on monitored workloads of the different types of metadata requests.

  • Patent number: 9182926
Abstract: A storage apparatus coupled to a host device comprises a virtual volume which is a virtual logical volume configured of multiple virtual areas and a pool configured of multiple actual area groups of different performances. A controller manages pool status information which is the information showing which actual area is allocated to which virtual area and access load related to the virtual areas. A management system of the storage apparatus, with reference to the pool status information at multiple points of time from past to present and an access load threshold which is equal to or larger than 1, estimates the used capacity of each actual area group at points of time in the future, calculates the installed/removed amount of each actual area group which is the difference between the estimated used capacity and the current storage capacity, and performs the processing based on the calculated result.

  • Publication number: 20150227540
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide a data compression technique which chooses a compression method without compressing data. A storage system comprises a storage media and a controller. The controller is operable to: determine a compression method to be used to compress a data block of uncompressed data based on one or more characteristics of data content of the uncompressed data prior to compressing the data block; and compress the data block of the uncompressed data using the determined compression method. In some embodiments, the controller is operable to determine the compression method based on a compression rule which relates one or more characteristics of data content and compression methods. In specific embodiments, the storage system further comprises a flash memory device which includes the controller to determine the compression method and to compress the data block.

  • Publication number: 20150089129
Abstract: A storage management system, where when adding a specified area of storage media to a storage tiered in response to a request from a host computer, a management computer: obtains storage media information, including I/O frequency of a data storage area of a volume(s) as well as performance information and structure information of the storage media, from the storage apparatus; identifies one or more storage media, which have not been allocated to any of the volumes with the I/O performance in excess of the I/O frequency, on the basis of the structure information of the storage media so that the data storage area of the volume(s), to which a specified storage in the storage tiered is allocated, would achieve a specified I/O performance target; and issues an instruction to the storage apparatus to create a storage tiered by using the identified storage media.
