    Abstract: A film to be laminated on a metal, which is formed of a polycarbonate resin having a high concentration of terminal hydroxyl groups or a composition comprising said resin and a polyester resin or a film to be laminated on a metal, which is formed by laminating the above film and a polyester film. The film is excellent in adhesion to a metal plate, moldability, heat resistance, retort resistance, odor retention property, impact resistance dent resistance and processability into a can, such as drawing fabrication, ironing fabrication or the like for producing metal cans.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal film comprising a light-transmitting resin matrix and liquid crystal droplets dispersed therein, characterized in that(a) an average droplet diameter R (micrometers) of the liquid crystal droplets is 1 to 2.5 micrometers,(b) a thickness d (micrometers) of the liquid crystal film is 5 to 50 micrometers,(c) an applied voltage V.sub.0.7 (V) is less than 0.8 d when light transmittance is 70%,(d) a driving voltage V.sub.90 (V) in d=10 micrometers and an average droplet diameter R (micrometers) of the liquid crystal droplets meet the following relationshipV.sub.90 >1 (R-1.8).sup.2 +4,(e) saturated light transmittance (T.sub.100) in d=10 micrometers is at least 80% and light transmittance (T.sub.7V) in applying a voltage of 7 V is at least 90% of T.sub.100. Said liquid crystal film can be utilized in a liquid crystal display device.

    Abstract: A process for the production of a fiber-reinforced composite material, which comprises the steps of(1) preparing a polymeric composition containing a substantially linear aromatic oligomer having a terminal aliphatic hydroxyl group, bis(acylcaprolactam) and a catalyst which promotes a ring opening-addition reaction of a hydroxyl group and a caprolactam ring,(2) melting the polymeric composition and impregnating it into a fibrous reinforcing material to form a impregnated product, and(3) heating the impregnated product up to a temperature sufficient to open the caprolactam ring while inhibiting elimination of caprolactam thereby to form, as a matrix resin, a thermoplastic copolymer having an ester group and an amide group in its main chain;and a fiber-reinforced composition material produced by the above-mentioned process.

    Abstract: A process for producing a thermoset resin, which comprises reacting (A) a poly(cyclic iminoether), (B) an ethylenically unsaturated compound having a functional group reactive with the poly(cyclic iminoether), and (C) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having no functional group reactive with the poly(cyclic iminoether), in the presence of an acid catalyst and a radical catalyst. Instead of the compound (B), there may be used the compound (D), i.e. a compound having at least two equivalents of at least one group selected from the class consisting of carboxyl, hydroxyl, amino, epoxy and carboxylic anhydride groups in the molecule and being free from an ethylenically unsaturated bond. The present application provides also a thermosetting composition and a thermoset resin.

    Abstract: A novel, substantially linear aromatic polyester comprising 6,6'-(ethylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid as a main acid component and an aliphatic glycol having 2 to 10 carbon atoms in the main chain of the glycol as a main glycol component. The aromatic polyester is prepared by condensing an ethylene glycol diester of 6,6'-(ethylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid, or a mixture of a major proportion of said naphthoate with a dicarboxylic acid, a diol, a hydroxycarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof, at an elevated temperature. The aromatic polyester has excellent mechanical properties such as strength and Young's modulus.
