  • Patent number: 6333697
Abstract: A combination meter for a vehicle has a speedometer, a tachometer, a gauge and a warning light disposed in a casing. A holding panel having an annular wall and a rear wall is attached to the casing so that the speedometer, the tachometer, the gauge and the warning light are exposed through openings formed in the rear wall. The speedometer analog-displays a speed of the vehicle using a dial and a pointer and digital-displays a speed of the vehicle using an EL panel disposed at a front side of the dial and attached to the holding panel. An EL drive circuit for driving the EL panel is mounted on an outer surface of the annular wall of the holding panel. As a result, the EL panel and the EL drive circuit are readily attached to the casing simultaneously when the holding panel is attached to the casing, thereby improving an efficiency in attachment and replacement of the EL panel and the EL drive circuit.

  • Patent number: 5957983
Abstract: A traveling device for calculating the relative displacement of a vehicle in a road using a magnetic sensor and a CCD camera and performing automatic steering. The vehicle is equipped with a magnetic sensor and a CCD camera. A magnetic ECU processes a signal from the magnetic sensor, an image ECU processes a signal from the CCD camera and the resulting relative displacements are both output to a vehicle control computer. When a relative displacement output from the image ECU is not irregular, the vehicle control computer performs steering control after calculating an amount of corrective steering using this relative displacement and, when it is irregular, the vehicle control computer performs steering control after calculating an amount of corrective steering using the relative displacement output from the image ECU.

  • Patent number: 4482808
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring neutrons and gamma rays is disclosed in which after pulses generated by neutrons are discriminated from pulses generated by gamma rays, two different counted values are obtained for either the pulses generated by neutrons or the pulses generated by gamma rays to control a discriminating circuit between the pulses by neutrons and the pulses by gamma rays so that a ratio between the different counted values is kept constant, and further two different counted values are obtained for either the pulses by neutrons or the pulses by gamma rays in a manner the same as the above-mentioned to control the output of a detector so that a ratio between the counted values is kept constant.

  • Patent number: 4456147
Abstract: By displaceably, rather than fixedly, supporting selected track segments in the gravity-fed storage chamber of an automatic vending machine, the kinetic energy developed in the stored goods as they fall in the storage chamber is dissipated by the displaceable track segments in a damping fashion and the goods are not subject to shock and damage.

  • Patent number: 4049367
Abstract: An apparatus for generating shock waves by means of a supersonic projectile to effect, for example, phase transformation of a substance. A hammer in a cylinder is accelerated by introduction of compressed air into the cylinder, whereby a plunger formed integrally with the hammer at one end thereof is thrust into a hydraulic pressure chamber filled with a liquid and disposed coaxially with the cylinder. Thereupon, a high hydraulic pressure is generated in a hydraulic pressure chamber, and this hydraulic pressure accelerates a piston in a piston chamber connected with the hydraulic pressure chamber. The piston in turn compresses a light gas adiabatically to a high pressure, and a projectile fitted at one end of a barrel is thrust forward under the force of this high-pressure gas.

  • Patent number: 4035472
Abstract: Industrial diamond powder is prepared from a mixture of graphite and a non-metallic material which is semi-transparent to thermal radiation by projecting a solid body against said mixture at a velocity which lies between the sonic wave propagation velocity of said graphite and said semi-transparent material. The shock collision provides the high pressure and temperature rise necessary for conversion of graphite to diamond and the semi-transparent material provides for sufficiently rapid cooling to prevent reversion of the formed diamond powder to graphite.
