Abstract: A facsimile transmitting system is provided, wherein information recorded on a document or docments is read and transmitted. Prior to transmission, the amount of information recorded on the document is detected. A charge is calcualted prior to transmission based on the detected amount of recorded information. Money or the like corresponding to the calculated charge is received. Thereafter, information read from the documents is transmitted. The money can be received via a charge receiving unit which responds to a card storing recorded monetary value. The receiving unit reads the value from the card, substracts a value corresponding to the calculated charge from the read value, and records the result of this subtraction onto the card.

Abstract: A telephone of the type that employs a magnetic card having a certain value or worth recorded thereon, and which permits a user to cummunicate by the telephone within the limits of the remaining value of the card, records a dialed number on the card when the card is used a first time, and automatically dials the recorded number when the card is subsequently used.

Abstract: A card and a card identifying apparatus. The card is imparted with a predetermined characteristic information in the form of an embossment pattern, a character pattern, a fingerprint pattern, a colored pattern or a combination of selected ones of these patterns, while information corresponding to the predetermined characteristic information is stored in a memory incorporated in the card. Upon insertion of the card into the card identifying apparatus, the latter senses the characteristic information while reading out the corresponding information from the card for collation. When coincidence is found between both information, it is decided that the card is genuine.
