Abstract: A luminaire assembly comprises a lower portion for receiving a light emitting source and an upper housing that stores the electrical components of the luminaire. The lower portion has a base portion disposed against the canopy with a latch attachment portion, a lens secured to the base portion by a hinge mechanism that permits the lens to open with respect to the base portion, and a latch connected to the base portion and having a connecting portion for connecting the base portion to the lens. The upper housing is disposed above the canopy. A bracket is attached to the base portion and extends up through the aperture in the canopy and connects to an inner wall of an apertured portion of the upper housing to secure the lower portion to the upper housing. The upper housing may have extending deck supports to support the weight of the upper housing on the ribs of the canopy. A locking cam is provided to secure the bracket to the upper housing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for retrofitting canopy luminaire assemblies from an existing canopy luminaire mounted on the canopy. The existing light fixture is removed. Housing brackets are attached to housing flanges of the existing canopy housing. An adapter plate comprises a plate with a deck plate bracket having a latch. The adapter plate is mounted to the housing brackets by use of the latch. The adapter plate may comprise a deck plate and an assembly plate which are pivotably attached to enable an installer to connect the lighting source to the electrical components in the housing. A lighting assembly, comprising a light source, lens, and reflector, is attached to the adapter plate.

The luminaire includes a light source, a reflector having a first opening and a second opening holdidng the translucent filter, and a housing. The reflector encloses the light source, and a portion of the light passes through the translucent filter in the reflector. The housing generally encloses the reflector and has at least one opening in the intended shape of the accent light.

Abstract: A light fixture assembly positionable in a recess in the ground, includes a lamp housing, a light-transparent lens, a lamp and a directional louver assembly. The directional louver assembly is mounted within the lamp housing on annular ledge between the lamp and the lens, and includes a plurality of interconnected rectangular louver members having ends lying on a single circle to form a circular lateral periphery. Rotation of louver assembly on the ledge adjusts the direction of the light emitted from the light fixture.

Abstract: A light fixture includes a lamp housing, a removable cover, a light transparent lens, a lamp and a gasket. The lamp housing has a hollow interior and an open top. The removable cover is releasably coupled to the housing and extends over and laterally beyond the open top, and has an aperture extending through it. The cover also has depending ribs. The gasket is mounted between and seals joints between the lens, the cover and the housing. The gasket is confined between the ribs to ensure its proper alignment.

Abstract: A light fixture includes separate ballast and optical housings. The optical housing includes an open top, a hollow base depending from the open top and a wiring chamber extending laterally from the hollow base adjacent to the open top. A cover is releasably coupled to the housing, extends over the open top, and has an aperture extending through it receiving a lens. The lamp is mounted in the base of the optical housing for directing light through the lens. The ballast housing is releasably coupled to the optical housing at the wiring chamber. A ballast cover is coupled to the ballast housing. An electrical ballast assembly is mounted in the ballast housing. Wiring extends between the housings for electrically connecting the lamp and the electrical ballast assembly.

Abstract: A light fixture has a light-transparent cover at substantially grade level and a photocontrol device with a self-flushing outer surface for preventing accumulation of opaque material thereon. The light fixture is adapted to be positioned within a recess in the graded environment and includes a housing which encloses a lamp electrically connected to the photocontrol device. The self-flushing outer surface of the photocontrol device discourages the build-up of opaque material so that the photocontrol device can reliably detect changes in the ambient light conditions outside the light fixture and operate the lamp in response to the detected changes.

Abstract: A resilient hold-down strap for retaining one or more capacitors in position against a housing wall includes substantially rigid end brackets integrally attached to an intermediate strap portion which is elastically extensible. Thickened ends of the intermediate strap portions are securely attached to the end brackets, or unitarily formed therewith, to form a unitary strap member. Holes are provided in the end brackets for fasteners to pass into or through the housing wall so that the capacitor is positioned securely between the fastener locations.

Abstract: An outdoor luminaire for lighting a region adjacent a vertical wall includes a housing having an upper portion for containing the circuitry to energize a lamp and a lower portion with a reflector, a lamp socket and a transparent refractor enclosing the socket and reflector region. The socket and reflector are inclined downwardly toward the rear of the assembly and the reflector is formed with a U-shaped central portion and rearwardly and outwardly extending side portions. The refractor is provided with inside and outside prisms to direct the light in a predetermined pattern which is generally laterally to both sides of the fixture.

Abstract: A luminaire of an HID lamp includes a wiring box pivotally mounted on a yoke and a lamp and reflector mounted on the box. The lamp is mounted with its axis perpendicular to a normally horizontal surface of the box. The reflector is mostly formed as surfaces of revolution but has a flat mounting surface offset from the reflector axis at a predetermined angle, preferably about 36.degree. for use with a lamp having a .+-.15.degree. operating angle deviation from vertical. Thus, the aiming angle can be between 21.degree. and 51.degree. from vertical.

Abstract: A support knuckle for a luminaire has a first body attached to the luminaire housing and a second body which can be attached to a mounting location. The first body has a recess with peripheral teeth and a passage to the housing interior. The second body has teeth which are matable with those on the first body at various angular positions. The two bodies are held together by a threaded fastener passing through an elastomeric sleeve.

Abstract: A luminaire housing is made exclusively or almost entirely of plastic material and contains an HID lamp together with its ballast and other components. A shallow, thermally conductive heat dissipating pan is mounted against the back of the housing and receives a body of fibrous insulating material, the pan being connected by a highly heat conductive member to the lamp reflector and a heat conductive support bracket within the housing to convey heat from the housing to the pan for dissipation to the ambient atmosphere.

Abstract: A luminaire includes a generally parallelepipedic housing with a square opening into which a reflector and lamp assembly can be inserted and fastened. The opening is square as is the reflector so that it can be extracted and rotated 90.degree. as a unit. The reflector has a parabolic concave reflective surface and a lamp with an elongated light source, producing a rectangular pattern which is rotated as the orientation of the reflector is rotated.
