    Abstract: A wireless communication device generates physical layer (PHY) protocol service data units (PSDUs), and, in response to determining that the PHY data unit is to be transmitted according to a HARQ process, generates HARQ coding units of a common length, each of the HARQ coding units including a respective set of one or more PSDUs, and individually encodes the HARQ coding units. The wireless communication device also generates a HARQ signal field to the included in a PHY preamble of the PHY data unit. The HARQ signal field includes i) a common information subfield to indicate one or more parameters that commonly apply to each of at least some of the one or more HARQ coding units and ii) a respective HARQ coding unit information subfield for each of the HARQ coding units to indicate one or more parameters that apply to only the corresponding HARQ coding unit.

A High Throughput (HT) Control field that includes buffer information corresponding to media access control (MAC) protocol data units (MPDUs) that are queued for transmission by a first communication device is generated by the first communication device. The buffer information indicates a number of bytes for the MPDUs that are queued for transmission. A resource request MPDU that includes the HT Control field is generated by the first communication device. The resource request MPDU is transmitted by the first communication device to a second communication device via a wireless communication channel to request an allocation of radio resources for the UL MU transmission by the second communication device.

The acknowledgment data unit includes (i) an indication that indicates that the acknowledgment data unit is intended for the multiple second communication devices, and (ii) respective acknowledgment information fields for the multiple second communication devices. The communication device allocates one or more frequency resource units (RUs) for the MU transmission, including: in response to determining that the communication channel spans the frequency bandwidth greater than 160 MHz, selecting one or more frequency RUs from a second set of frequency RUs. The second set of frequency RUs omits at least some RUs of a smallest bandwidth that are included in a first set of RUs that is used for allocating frequency RUs for communication channels having bandwidths of at most 160 MHz. The communication device generates allocation information that indicates the allocation of the one or more frequency RUs for the MU transmission, and transmits the allocation information to one or more other communication devices in connection with the MU transmission.

    Abstract: Some embodiments described herein provide a method for transmitting a preamble in accordance with a wireless local area network communication protocol. In some embodiments, a data frame may be obtained for transmission including a preamble compliant with the wireless local area network communication protocol. It may be determined that the preamble includes a first preamble portion that spans multiple symbol durations and a second preamble portion that spans a single symbol duration. The first preamble portion via beamforming may be transmitted based on a first beamforming matrix. When a transmission mode of the second preamble portion is beamforming, a second beamforming matrix may be generated based on the first beamforming matrix, each tone for the second preamble portion may be calculated based on the second beamforming matrix. Each calculated tone may be transmitted in accordance with the wireless local area network communication protocol.

The first communication device generates a multi-user physical layer (PHY) data unit that includes i) a PHY preamble, and ii) a PHY data portion. The PHY preamble is generated to include the subfield, and the PHY data portion is generated to include the MU-MIMO transmission.
