  • Publication number: 20210272511
Abstract: A display device has a timing controller and a microdriver. The timing controller receives multiple bit sequences of image data for multiple pixels of the display device. The timing controller also reorders the multiple bit sequences based on a significant bit position within the multiple bit sequences. Each of the multiple bit sequences corresponds to a respective individual pixel of the multiple pixels. The microdriver receives the reordered multiple bit sequences and drives the multiple pixels using the reordered plurality of bit sequences.

  • Patent number: 11073927
Abstract: An integrated touchscreen can include light emitting diodes or organic light emitting diodes (LEDs/OLEDs), display chiplets and touch chiplets disposed in a visible area of the integrated touch screen. For example, the LEDs/OLEDs, display chiplets and touch chiplets can be placed on a substrate by a micro-transfer tool. The integrated touchscreen can also include electrodes disposed in the visible area of the integrated touch screen. The electrodes can be capable of providing display functionality via the one or more display chiplets during display operation (e.g., operating as cathode terminals of the LEDs during the display operation) and capable of providing touch functionality via the touch chiplets during touch operation (e.g., touch node electrodes can be formed from groups of the electrodes and sensed). In some examples, the touch node electrodes can be formed and coupled to touch chiplets via the display chiplets.

  • Patent number: 11023995
Abstract: Methods and systems for reducing power consumption of a display link by compacting image data to allow the display link to be deactivated for a longer duration. For instance, pixels that correspond to a preset or default value for a display may be omitted from pixel data sent over the display link. Additionally or alternatively, the display link may be divided into multiple lanes that function independently so that a lane of the display link may be deactivated while other lanes are actively transmitting image data.

  • Patent number: 10997899
Abstract: An electronic display includes emission clock routing without the use of repeaters. This may be accomplished by providing row drivers for each emission clock signal on opposing edges of the display panel, so that each set of row drivers may provide the emission clock signal to only a portion of the micro-drivers in each row. The array of micro-drivers may be further segmented (e.g., into four or more sections, an alternating pattern, uneven sections, etc.) to provide similar advantages. Furthermore, rather than using multiplexors to provide the emission clock signals to the row drivers, the emission clock may be hardwired to the row drivers. This may reduce the number of pins and support the provision of more phases.

  • Patent number: 10991330
Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to electronic device display circuitry and methods of operating the display. The display circuitry includes gate-in-panel (GIP) drivers for each pixel row of a pixel array, and mode selection circuitry coupled between two of the GIP drivers. The mode selection circuitry receives a select signal to switch the display between a full-screen mode of operation and a split-screen mode of operation. The mode selection circuitry allows the pixel rows to be operated in a butterfly driving mode that facilitates reduction of optical artifacts when displaying augmented-reality or virtual-reality content with a multi-function display such as a display of a smartphone or a tablet.

  • Patent number: 10964235
Abstract: An electronic device may include a display. The display includes display driver circuitry for driving data lines routed across the display. The electronic device may have a recessed device housing region, where at least some of the data lines are routed around the recessed region. The data lines being routed around the recessed region may be formed in at least two different metal routing layers. The electronic device may further include additional display driver circuitry for driving data lines from another peripheral housing edge to obviate the need to route around the recessed region. The data lines from the two display driver circuitries can be disconnected at random locations or can be interlaced to achieve spatial interleaving. The display driver circuitry may include demultiplexing circuitry having smaller switches coupled in parallel with larger demultiplexer routing switches to reduce voltage kick and charge injection.

  • Patent number: 10891882
Abstract: The present techniques are capable of identifying and pinpointing defective microdrivers and/or row/column drivers either before or after any ?LEDs have been placed on the display. Using the architectures described herein, test data may be delivered in a parallel fashion to the drivers from support circuitry, such as a timing controller and/or a main board, and outputs based on the test data may be similarly delivered back to the support circuitry do determine which drivers are defective. This yields access to the output of every microdriver and row drier, thus enabling the identification of specific defective elements.
