    Abstract: With closed respiratory systems, the patient's respiratory tract is tightly connected to a closed volume to which breathing gas is supplied only in the amount taken in by the patient. To this end, the breathing gas supply must be controlled. The controlled variable is either the pressure in the ventilating circuit, or the concentration of oxygen or the anesthetic gas in the breathing gas. A dropping pressure indicates either an increased consumption or a leak. To avoid insufficient or excessive loading of the patient, it is very important to be able to distinguish consumption from a leak. The inventive device makes this distinction possible. The breathing gas amounts are adjusted in the ventilating circuit at preset different pressures and are compared with each other, and the leak portion is computed therefrom.

    Abstract: A respirator device particularly for use in association with a tube insertable into a person's trachea comprises a trachea tube having an inflatable cuff which seals the tube with the person's trachea. A line for ventilating gas extends into the tube and terminates in a jet nozzle directed to the trachea. The opposite end of the tube is provided with a connection to atmosphere which also makes it possible to provide a controlled vacuum pressure at this end particularly in the expiration phase. Control is effected between the ventilating gas and the vacuum for regulating the respiration. With the inventive method the vacuum is provided at the outer end of the trachea tube particularly during respiration and it is effected by directing a vacuum pressure gas supply connection through a Venturi connection to the tube which produces the vacuum in the tube and communicates the tube to atmosphere. This gas connection is controlled along with a ventilating pressure gas connection to provide the desired respiration.

    Abstract: A tracheal tube comprises a hollow tube body having an open tube end and an inflatable sealing cuff disposed around the tube adjacent the tube end. At least one small diameter tube is associated with the hollow tube and it has a nozzle portion terminating in a discharge jet adjacent the open tube end for use in jet ventilation at high frequencies above 600 cycles per minute. The small diameter tube has a diameter of from between 0.4 to 0.05 .times. the inside diameter of the tube shaft and the outlet opening of the jet nozzle is arranged relative to the tube end either inside or outside the tube diameter at such a spacing that it is within .+-.5.times. the inside diameter of the tube body.

    Abstract: A measuring sensor head for determining the contents of gases in liquids, particularly for transcutaneous determination of oxygen in blood, as well as a method of manufacturing such sensor head are disclosed. In accordance with the invention, the gas-permeable membrane which covers the front face of the sensor head and which, during use, is applied to the human skin, is preshaped to assume a cap-shaped configuration. This eliminates previously occurring measuring errors due to uncontrollable stresses causing thickness variations generated in conventional membranes and, moreover, provides for an improved sealing effect between the housing of the measuring head and the membrane.

The indicated value is then directed to an indicating unit to show the value of the CO.sub.2.
