  • Patent number: 4808789
Abstract: A semiconductor-diode-pumped solid-state laser instrumentation system for use in industrial materials processing, spectroscopy, medical surgery, metrology, fiberoptic communication, and related research work in a scientific laboratory is described. The system principally comprises a hand-held instrumentation stylus containing a laser-generating source consisting of a laser rod with an array of semiconductor radiation-emitting diodes disposed in adjacent relation to said laser rod for producing a high-quality and stable beam of laser radiation therefrom. The system is further capable of generating harmonic wavelengths of said radiation at Q-switched and modelocked formats.

  • Patent number: 4203098
Abstract: A device for preventing a car driver from dozing during a long distance driving to avoid an accident is described. The device comprises two separate parts electrically connected together by means of an electric cord. One of said parts comprises a housing attachable to the dashboard (instrument panel) of an automobile and contains therein an electric circuit energized by a battery current for producing pulsative signals which are transmitted to the second part mounted on the upwardly projecting back of a driver's seat for physical contact with the driver's back and to transmit said pulsative signals to the driver to keep him awake while driving a car or a truck. Said electric circuit further contains therein a branch circuit to furnish current to said second part which then produces stimuli that cause relaxation in the tired muscles of the driver in contact with said second part.

  • Patent number: 4180810
Abstract: A silent awakening system operable either by receiving a sound-alarm signal, such as that from a fire-detection alarm, or by the actuation thereof by means of an alarm-triggering means of an electric clock, with the sound-producing mechanism of said clock being deactivated. The system is used to awaken deaf persons as well as persons of normal hearing, without disturbing others sleeping in the same room or nearby.

  • Patent number: 4093944
Abstract: An electronic system for silently awakening a sleeping person without disturbing others sleeping in the same room and, when desired, for inducing sleep in a person unable to fall asleep naturally is disclosed. The system consists of a signal triggering means comprising either an electric clock or a fire-smoke detection device provided therein with an electronic circuitry having two channels, one channel for developing awakening signals and the other for producing sleep-inducing signals. Said system is further provided with a stimulus-directing means, to be positioned under a sleeping person's pillow for receiving stimuli from said electronic circuitry into said stimulus-directing means and transmitting therefrom continuous as well as recurrent, pulsative motion through said pillow to a person lying thereon, as in sleeping or resting.

  • Patent number: 4028882
Abstract: An electronic system for awakening especially deaf persons and for relaxing and soothing tired and aching muscles of persons who frequently develop body tiredness from overwork or due to some organic illness is described. The systems comprises an electric timer unit for setting a desired time of the day when a sleeper intends to be awakened, and a pulsative resonator unit connected to said timer unit through an electric cord and is positioned, during use thereof, under the sleeper's pillow. When the set time of the day arrives, the timer unit automatically triggers the pulsative resonator unit, which causes a repeated vibratory action under the pillow and awakens the sleeper.

  • Patent number: 3947815
Abstract: An emergency alarm system for automobiles for signalling passerbys and police that the driver or the occupant of the car needs immediate help due to a sudden attack of illness, heart trouble, stroke, or intrusion by burglars or other criminals is described. The system comprises an alarm and light-flashing device actuated by manually-operated switches located at various readily-accessible parts of the car, or triggered automatically from an alarm-triggering device carried on the shirt pocket of the car driver or occupant. The system also serves to keep the driver awake during a long-distance and tiresome driving trip by intermittently sounding an alarm contained in a driver's cap and connected to the present emergency alerting system, when the driver has the tendency to become drowsy.
