  • Patent number: 9121362
Abstract: A system for a vehicle includes a knock indication module, a valve control module, and a fault indication module. The knock indication module selectively indicates that knock occurred within a cylinder of an engine. The valve control module controls lifting of a valve of a cylinder of the engine and, in response to the knock indication module indicating that knock occurred within the cylinder, transitions lifting of the valve from one of a low lift state and a high lift state to the other one of the low lift state and the high lift state. The fault indication module selectively indicates that a fault is present in a variable valve lift (VVL) mechanism of the cylinder based on whether the knock indication module indicates that knock occurred within the cylinder after the transition to the other one of the low lift state and the high lift state.

  • Patent number: 9071985
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in connection with improving QoE in RAN congestion. In one example, a communications device is equipped to indicate a quality control indicator (QCI) for each of a plurality of applications that communicate with a RAN over a bearer, receive information regarding modification of the bearer or additional bearers based on the QCIs, and modify the bearer or additional bearers according to the information to achieve a desired QoE for at least one of the plurality of applications. In another example, a RAN is equipped to receive a QCI for each of a plurality of applications related to a bearer from a UE, and modify the bearer or adding additional bearers for communicating with the UE based on the QCI for each of the plurality of applications to improve QoE at the UE.

  • Publication number: 20150136012
Abstract: A modular system for building underwater robotic vehicles (URVs), including a pressure vessel system, modular chassis elements, a propulsion system and compatible buoyancy modules. The pressure vessel system uses standardized, interchangeable modules to allow for ease of modification of the URV and accommodation of different internal and external components such as sensors and computer systems. The system also includes standard, reconfigurable connections of the pressure vessel to the modular chassis system. A standardized, modular propulsion system includes a magnetic clutch, and a magnetic sleeve used to power the URV on or off.

  • Patent number: 8923802
Abstract: A Home Public Land Mobile Network (HPLMN) or home network immediately accepts a registration requests from “eCall-only” subscribers attempting to register with any Visitor Public Land Mobile Networks (VPLMNs) or roaming network. This avoids unnecessary delays in the establishment of an eCall (emergency call) that might be otherwise introduced by the home network's roaming registration management policy (RRMP) that otherwise would only permit registrations (and subsequent call servicing) by preferred roaming VPLMN partners and automatically reject registrations from non-preferred roaming networks (which may hinder or prevent timely completion of an eCall).

  • Patent number: 8909652
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for determining the Internet search popularity of an entity are provided. Embodiments of the present invention include receiving a group of Internet search records and assigning a popularity ranking based on the number of times an entity descriptor associated with an entity occurs within the group of Internet search records created over a designated time period. An entity descriptor is one or more terms commonly used to identify an entity. The trend in an entity's popularity rank may also be calculated. An entity's popularity rank and trend in popularity rank may be presented in a graph or in a list.

  • Publication number: 20140141979
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for identifying an essential gene which serves as an antibiotic target in a bacterium, the method comprising the steps of: (a) generating a pool of mutant bacteria by transposon mutagenesis with an activating transposon (TnA), wherein the TnA comprises a promoter such that transposon insertion into bacterial DNA increases the transcription of a gene at or near the insertion site; (b) growing bacteria from the mutant pool in the presence of different amounts of said antibiotic to produce two or more test cultures; and (c) comparing the distribution of TnA insertions between test cultures to identify a putative essential gene serving as a target of said antibiotic in said bacterium.

  • Publication number: 20140135234
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for identifying an essential gene which serves as an antibiotic target in a bacterium, the method comprising the steps of: (a) generating an antibiotic resistant mutant of said bacterium by a method comprising the step of selecting for growth in the presence of said antibiotic to produce an antibiotic resistant mutant clone (AbR mutant); (b) transforming the AbR mutant with: (i) one or more essential genes of said bacterium; and (ii) a transposon which insertionally inactivates bacterial DNA, to produce a pool of transposon mutants which are merodiploid for said one or more essential genes; (c) growing bacteria from the merodiploid pool in the presence of different amounts of said antibiotic to produce two or more test cultures; and (d) comparing the distribution of transposon insertions between test cultures to identify a putative essential gene serving as a target of said antibiotic in said bacterium.

  • Publication number: 20140094210
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for communicating telematics data and metadata. A first device transmits a first signaling message to a second device over a communication session signaling protocol. The first signaling message includes at least a first set of session information related to a communication session between the first device and the second device and a first set of telematics data for the first device. The first device receives a second signaling message from the second device over the communication session signaling protocol. The second signaling message includes metadata based on a content of the first set of telematics data transmitted in the first signaling message.

  • Patent number: 8583670
Abstract: Presenting one or more suggested search-engine queries based on an initial search-engine query is described herein. Once the initial query is received, a search engine determines whether any web content is relevant thereto. If not, a query-suggestion service determines whether any suggested queries can be substituted for the initial query. If not, the query is spell-corrected, if necessary, and parsed into individual terms. Each parsed term is then checked to see whether it can be associated with alternative search terms. Terms than can are combined and their combination is also checked for alternative search terms. All of the alternative search terms are scored and then assembled into a list of suggested search terms that is presented to the user.
