  • Patent number: 5848322
Abstract: An apparatus for determining charge density and mobility in a liquid solution having electrically charged particles therein. The apparatus includes an electrode, and a dielectric member having a first surface situated opposite the electrode for providing a volume therebetween in which a sample of the liquid may be placed. A fixed bias voltage applied to the electrode to produce an electrical current flow through the liquid solution and the dielectric member. A device coupled to the dielectric member, measures the electrical current as a function of time to provide a measure of voltage decay across the liquid solution. The voltage decay corresponds to the charge density of the liquid solution.

  • Patent number: 5682192
Abstract: To create a latent electrostatic gray scale image on a charge receptor, a gray scale generator determines a charge distribution for a unit cell having at least two pixels. A charge manager then determines the amount of charge to be placed in each pixel. More specifically, the charge amount for a first ON pixel in the unit cell is assigned a relative full charge amount. The charge amount in each succeeding ON pixel is determined such as to ensure faithful reproduction of gray scale for any given ratio of pixel size to charge receptor thickness. To increase the developability in proportion to the gray scale, the charge manager manages the charge amount of succeeding ON pixels to be a smaller amount than the first ON pixel.

  • Patent number: 5576817
Abstract: An apparatus for developing an image on an imageable surface with liquid developer including a housing having a chamber defined therein for holding liquid developer. A pump is provided for advancing liquid developer from the chamber of the housing to a development zone. An electrode member is provided having at least two segments electrically separated from each other by a insulating layer. The electrode member is positioned opposed from the imageable surface at a predefined distance forming the development zone therebetween. A power supply is provided for applying a electrical potential to the electrode member.

  • Patent number: 5063397
Abstract: A method and apparatus for developing an image wherein a distance between a charge receiving surface and a conductive surface is varied. During charging of the charge receiving surface, the receptor thickness is smaller than during the development step.

  • Patent number: 4123269
Abstract: Disclosed is a layered photosensitive device for use in electrostatographic copying. The device comprises:(a) an electrically conductive substrate;(b) a layer of material capable of injecting holes into a layer on its surface;(c) a hole transport layer in operative contact with the layer of hole injecting material which transport layer comprises a combination of a highly insulating organic resin having dispersed therein small molecules of an electrically active material, the combination of which is substantially non-absorbing to visible light but allows injection of photogenerated holes fom a charge generator layer in contact with said hole transport layer and electrically induced holes from the layer of injecting material;(d) a layer of a charge generating photoconductive material on and in operative contact with the charge transport layer; and(e) a layer of an insulating organic resin overlaying the layer of charge generating material.
