Patent number: 7336146Abstract: A circuit breaker mechanism comprises a line terminal, a load terminal and a set of contacts between the terminals. A fixed contact is connected to the line terminal, and a moving contact is connected to the load terminal via a conductive frame and a load sensing element. The moving contact is fixed to a contact carrier which is supported pivotably on conductive pins which are electrically connected to the frame. A spring urges the contact carrier into snug engagement with the conductive pins. The arrangement obviates the need for a flexible conductive pig-tail to form a current path between the contact carrier and the frame, simplifying the construction and improving the performance of the circuit breaker. With this arrangement, the current path extends from the line terminal to the moving contact, through the contact carrier, through the conductive pins, to the conductive frame and through the load sensing element to the load terminal.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2006Date of Patent: February 26, 2008Assignee: Circuit Breaker Industries Ltd.Inventors: David Alexander Elrick, Ian David Wiggins, Dante Bagalini

Patent number: 7299251Abstract: An adaptive filter is implemented by a computer (10) processing an input signal using a recursive least squares lattice (RLSL) algorithm (12) to obtain forward and backward least squares prediction residuals. A prediction residual is the difference between a data element in a sequence of elements and a prediction of that element from other sequence elements. Forward and backward residuals are converted at (14) to interpolation residuals which are unnormalized Kalman gain vector coefficients. Interpolation residuals are normalized to produce the Kalman gain vector at (16). The Kalman gain vector is combined at (18) with input and reference signals x(t) and y(t), which provides updates for the filter coefficients or weights to reflect these signals as required to provide adaptive filtering.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2001Date of Patent: November 20, 2007Assignee: Qinetiq LimitedInventors: Ian David Skidmore, Ian Keith Proudler

Patent number: 7290015Abstract: Application-level replication, the synchronization of data updates within a cluster of application servers, may be provided by having application servers themselves synchronize all updates to multiple redundant databases, precluding the need for database-level replication. This may be accomplished by first sending a set of database modifications requested by the transaction to a first database. Then a message may be placed in one or more message queues, the message indicating the objects inserted, updated, or deleted in the transaction. Then a commit command may be sent to the first database. The set of database modifications and a commit command may then be sent to a second database. This allows for transparent synchronization of the databases and quick recovery from a database failure, while imposing little performance or network overhead.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2003Date of Patent: October 30, 2007Assignee: Progress Software CorporationInventors: Vivek P. Singhal, Ian David Emmons

Patent number: 7201040Abstract: A rheometer comprises a vessel mounted on a stand and a rotatable blade mounted above the vessel. A substance for rheometric assessment is put in the vessel. The rotor is advanced linearly into the substance while at the same time rotating. The blade is arranged with a profile such that there is substantially zero slip as it progresses, thereby minimising disturbance to the substance. The rheometric assessment is based on the axial force exerted as a result of the resistance of the substance to the progression of the blade through it.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2002Date of Patent: April 10, 2007Assignee: Stable Microsystems LimitedInventors: Ian David Bateson, Timothy Nicholas Raven, James Alfred Walker
