  • Patent number: 6002555
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head includes an inductive head and an MR head. The resistance of one magnetic shielding layer is higher than the resistance of an opposed shielding layer, to increase the efficiency of the recording magnetic field. In one embodiment, the rear area of the magnetic layer includes a notched portion. In another embodiment, the resistivity of the material in one magnetic layer is increased with respect to the resistivity of the material used in the opposing magnetic layer.

  • Patent number: 6001468
Abstract: A magnetic head comprises a lower magnetic pole, an insulating film formed on the lower magnetic pole, a coil arranged over the lower magnetic pole so as to penetrate the insulating film, and an upper magnetic pole having a pole at its top end so as to have a clearance against the lower magnetic pole and formed of magnetic material having saturation magnetic flux density Bs (T) and electric resistivity .rho. (.mu..OMEGA.cm) on the insulating film to have a film thickness .delta. (.mu.m), and both sides of the upper magnetic pole being formed to extend from root portions of the pole at a taper angle .theta. (degree), whereby the upper magnetic pole can satisfy a condition of (1+tan .theta.).delta.Bs/.sqroot..rho..ltoreq.1.0.

  • Patent number: 5920449
Abstract: A recording head for a magnetic medium having a single layer magnetic film having an axis of easy magnetization in a direction inclined from an in-plane direction of the magnetic medium includes a leading pole provided on the upstream side in a direction of movement of the medium, and a trailing pole having an end cooperating with the end of the leading pole to define a small gap therebetween and a rear end portion held in contact with the leading pole. The trailing pole is provided on the downstream side in the direction of movement of the medium. The recording head further includes a coil wound around the contacting portions of the leading pole and the trailing pole. The distance between the end of the trailing pole and the medium is set larger by more than a predetermined length than the distance between the end of the leading pole and the medium.
