  • Patent number: 8732675
Abstract: A system and method for analyzing the real-time performance of a communication device. An aspect of the present invention records information input to the communication device during real-time operation of the communication device. A playback device or module may execute a model of the communication device in a non-real-time environment according to the recorded real-time input information. System execution in the non-real-time playback environment may, therefore, be equivalent to the original operation of the communication device that occurred in real-time. Accordingly, situations that occur in real-time may be efficiently recreated in non-real-time playback. An operator may analyze the past real-time performance of the communication device using the playback device or module, the recorded real-time input information, and a debugger utility if desired, without conducting additional trials to reproduce the desired operational situation.

  • Patent number: 8149904
Abstract: Provided is a system and method for a modem including one or more processing paths. Also included is a number of interconnected modules sequentially arrayed along the one or more paths. Each module is configured to (i) process signals passed along the paths in accordance with the sequence and (ii) implement predetermined functions to perform the processing. Further, each of the modules has a particular degree of functional programmability and the degrees of functional programmability monotonically vary in accordance with the sequence.

  • Publication number: 20090070828
Abstract: A set top box (STB) may be enabled to generate and communicate SMS messages over a back channel between the STB and one or more networked entities such as a satellite service provider headend and/or billing center via a coupled communication device. The SMS enabled communication device may be integrated within the STB or may be external to the STB. The SMS messages may comprise an address for one or more destination devices. In addition, the STB may receive acknowledgement messages for corresponding transmitted SMS messages and/or may receive and decode SMS messages. The SMS messages may be communicated via an integrated Bluetooth transceiver and an external cellular phone, via an integrated cellular transceiver and/or via a cable connecting an external cellular phone. The STB may be a satellite STB. The communicated SMS message may comprise billing information. The networked entity may comprise a headend and/or a billing center.

  • Publication number: 20090070796
Abstract: Data may be encoded into dual tone multiple frequency (DTMF) digits within a set top box (STB). The STB may be a satellite STB. The STB may establish connection to a networked entity such as a billing center or satellite headend via voice call over cellular network and communicate data encoded by DTMF digits. A wireless transceiver integrated within the STB and/or an external wireless transceiver such as cellular phone may be utilized to establish a call and transmit the DTMF digits. The external wireless transceiver may be coupled to the STB via a wired connection or a wireless connection such as WiFi or Bluetooth. The data communicated via DTMF digits may comprise billing data. The STB may receive an acknowledgement for receipt of the transmitted data.
