  • Patent number: 8458779
Abstract: A system, method, and client registration and verification device for handling personal identification information. The client device collects from an individual, a sufficient amount of biometric information to uniquely identify the individual, as well as historical mobility information providing a history of locations where the individual has lived. A caching manager stores the collected biometric information at a selected cache node in a hierarchical database having a plurality of cache nodes at multiple levels of the database. The caching manager selects the cache node based on the historical mobility information collected from the individual. The client device sends subsequent requests to verify the identity of the individual to a local cache node where newly input biometric information is compared with the cached information.

  • Publication number: 20120314127
Abstract: A method of controlling video from/to a User Equipment node (UE) through a network includes receiving a video mode request for transporting video from/to the UE through the network. Video requirements associated with the video mode request are identified. Network resources that need to be provisioned responsive to the identified video requirements are identified. The availability of network resources is determined An instruction is communicated to a policy charging and rules function (PCRF) node to provision network resources to transport video from/to the UE through the network responsive to the availability of network resources and the identified network resources that need to be provisioned. Related systems, network nodes, and UEs are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080167032
Abstract: A system and method adapted to support a satellite component as generic access in the terrestrial mobile networks. The present invention uses the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) baseline standard, 3GPP Generic Access Network (GAN) to support a Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) satellite component at the physical, Radio Link Control (RLC) and Medium Access Control (MAC) layers, with the terrestrial standards based in the Generic Access Protocol architecture framework.

  • Patent number: 6591099
Abstract: Within a wireless telecommunications network, a method and system of transferring information from a Mobile Station (MS) 12 in the network 40 transparently to a Post Processing Subsystem (PPSS) 50 outside the network 40. The PPSS 50 requests information about the MS 12 by transmitting a request to the network 40 via an external node 42 coupling the PPSS 50 to the network 40. An element in the network 40 then receives the request from the PPSS 50 and identifies the type of external node 42 from which the request was received. Information is collected about the MS 12 that is responsive to the request. Finally, the information is transmitted in a network message format to the PPSS 50 through the identified external node from which the request was received.

  • Patent number: 6539217
Abstract: Methods and arrangements are provided for use in a mobile communications network to determine an appropriate tariff for a mobile station accessing the capabilities of a mobile communications network having a coverage area that extends over a plurality of time-zone, borders, and/or other cost/service-sensitive regions. A time stamp is used, which includes an offset value associated with the location of the mobile station accessing the mobile communication services, to more precisely and efficiently determine an appropriate tariff to be charged, and/or service to be rendered to the subscriber associated with the mobile station. The methods and arrangements are particularly useful in mobile communication networks having satellite nodes.

  • Patent number: 6438355
Abstract: A method and system enables optimal call routing in a satellite communications network when a satellite subscriber has, for example, call forwarding active. Many satellite networks re-register a satellite subscriber's (e.g., the A-subscriber's) subscription information to a satellite gateway that is most cost efficient when the satellite subscriber initiates an outgoing call. If the called party (e.g. the B-subscriber) is distant from the satellite subscriber's home country, the distant gateway to which the re-registration occurs is likely to be far from the gateway of his or her native country, which is often to where call forwarding is directed. When an incoming call from a C-subscriber is detected for the A-subscriber, the call is handled normally until call forwarding is detected in the distant gateway. Once call forwarding is detected, a satellite gateway through which the call will be completed (e.g.

  • Patent number: 6349206
Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus enables a subscriber to be warned via the mobile terminal (MT) when the MT has moved into an invalid area during a call. The network monitors the location/position of the MT during a call. When the MT enters a region (e.g., a cell) that is invalid because it is located within an invalid area, the network sends a message to the MT. The message may be, for example, a novel cause code in a Direct Transfer Application Part (DTAP) message that triggers a warning action by the MT when the network does not have access to the transmission reaching the MT. The message may alternatively be an announcement or tone sent directly to the MT when the network does have direct access to the transmission reaching the MT. The network also begins a timer. If the MT is returned to a valid area before the is timer expires, the call may be continued (and a message so indicating may optionally be sent to the MT from the network).
