  • Patent number: 6775910
Abstract: A segmented core includes a plurality of integral core segments defined by a respective separation slot in the outer surface thereof. A sheet is wound around the core in a plurality of layers and is slit at the slot to simultaneously wind respective sheet ribbons on the core segments to form individual rolls. The sheet slit is aligned with the core slot which allows the wound rolls to be broken apart at the slots.

  • Patent number: 5964430
Abstract: A winding arbor includes a tube having three circumferentially spaced apart rows of axially spaced apart slots extending radially therethrough. A plurality of jaws are disposed inside the tube, with each jaw including an arcuate base and a plurality of axially spaced apart integral lugs disposed in the slots. An elastic bladder is disposed inside the tube inboard of the jaw bases and is expandable to deploy the jaws radially outwardly for projecting the lugs through the slot.

  • Patent number: 5172855
Abstract: A business form has a first ply and a second ply with an insert ply therebetween. The insert ply has a cutout portion along the upper edge of a certain dimension and a cutout portion along the lower edge of a lesser dimension than the cutout portion along the upper edge, the upper cutout portion accommodating adhesive for sealing a return envelope of a mailer that uses the same ply for the back of the outgoing mailer and for the back of the return envelope.

  • Patent number: 5131966
Abstract: A variable size rotary impact cylinder couple comprises a lower or anvil cylinder (which may be 22 inches in circumference) driven by a swing gear and a top impact cylinder driven by a servo motor which is adjustable in a vertical direction. The cylinder couple provides impacting in the manner of ironing or squeezing cross-web glue lines between adjacent paper parts. The cylinder couple provides for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8-around impacting positions for cylinder circumference of 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 251/2 and 28 inches. The self contained cylinder couple is used with a rotary collator to produce various sizes of cross-web glued forms. The combination drive system provides a single cylinder couple that emulates various printing cylinder sizes.

  • Patent number: 4828156
Abstract: A process for monitoring defects in the material of a moving web of paper or defects in operations performed on the web of paper. An air brush spray head applies ink for a predetermined duration at a location along an edge of the moving web of paper during a press operation and after a predetermined period of time to indicate that a defect has passed. A scanner senses the ink during a subsequent collating operation so that the process line can be stopped and the defect corrected. The location of the ink on the web of paper is at a point wherein the defect has passed and good material is present.
