  • Patent number: 7988674
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include anchor assemblies and methods for using the same to immobilize a device within a body portal. In one embodiment, the anchor assembly is utilized to immobilize a catheter relative to a covered (e.g., skin-covered) burr hole formed in a skull. Anchor assemblies in accordance with embodiments of the present invention may include anchors located subdermally that may be unlocked from outside the body to release the device without a surgical procedure.

Date of Patent: August 2, 2011
    Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.
Inventors: Matthew H. Adams, Benjamin A. Johnson, James Grant Skakoon
  • Patent number: 7766394
Abstract: A breakaway connector for use with a medical (e.g., catheter) or other fluid system. The connector may include two couplers that engage one another via a substantially frictionless retention device. In one embodiment, the retention device includes a biased cylindrical roller attached to one coupler that contacts an outer surface of the other coupler. The outer surface may include a grooved surface to receive the roller when the couplers are fully attached.

  • Publication number: 20080275466
Abstract: A cannula system and corresponding method for locating a tip of an elongate member (e.g., a catheter or other therapy delivery device) in a three-dimensional space such as a cranial cavity. One embodiment of the invention may utilize a secondary or device placement cannula that fits within a primary or guide cannula. The device placement cannula may have a length that is indexed relative to a length of a mapping member.

  • Patent number: 7018384
Abstract: A medical device and method for placing a medical tube, such as a catheter or a shunt, or a medical electrical lead within a patient is disclosed. The medical device of the present invention comprises a passer having a proximal end and a distal end, the passer defining a channel between the proximal end and the distal end. The medical device of the present invention further comprises an obturator having an elongated body, and a first end and a second end, the second end comprising a cradle. In accordance with the invention, the obturator has a removable probe having a first section that fits within the cradle and a second section having a tunneling tip that is exposed outside of the cradle. The obturator is placed into the passer so that the tunneling tip of the probe is exposed outside of the passer at the distal end of the passer. The cradle has dimensions to receive and hold in place a portion of the medical tube or medical lead after the probe is removed from the cradle.
