    Abstract: A coring method and apparatus is provided for extracting a core sample from a subterranean formation and/or drilling a hydrocarbon well, the coring apparatus having: a pneumatic reciprocating hammer having a first end for operatively connecting the pneumatic reciprocating hammer to a drill string, a second end having a hammer bit and a reciprocating piston for reciprocating the hammer bit; and a coring member operatively connected to the pneumatic reciprocation hammer, the coring member comprising an impact anvil and a hollow coring barrel forming an internal longitudinal chamber for accommodating the core sample, the coring barrel positioned below the impact anvil; whereby when the hammer bit strikes the impact anvil, the coring barrel is driven into the formation and the core sample is extracted into the internal longitudinal chamber of the coring barrel.

    Abstract: The downhole flow control means or downhole blowout preventor (downhole BOP) of the present invention is adapted for use during reverse circulation drilling with both concentric drill pipe and concentric coiled tubing. The downhole BOP comprises an inner tube member having an inner passage therethrough and an outer casing forming an annular passage between the inner tube member and the outer casing. The inner passage and the annular passage of the downhole BOP is in fluid communication with the inner passage and annular passage, respectively, of the concentric drill pipe or concentric coiled tubing. The downhole BOP further comprises two valve means, preferably a check valve and a ball valve, for closing off the annular passage and the inner passage of the downhole BOP, respectively. In a preferred embodiment, the downhole BOP further comprises an electric actuator for opening and closing the ball valve.

The zone isolating and testing apparatus is particularly useful for testing zones during reverse circulation drilling using concentric drill string such as concentric drill pipe or concentric coiled tubing. The isolation tool of the zone isolating and testing apparatus comprises an expandable packer means and is adapted to connect to concentric drill string near the drilling means and be in fluid communication with the concentric drill string. The downhole flow control means of the zone isolating and testing apparatus comprises at least two valves, one for closing off the annular conduit between the inner tube and outer tube of the concentric drill string and the other for closing off the inner conduit of the inner tube.

The apparatus comprises a concentric tubing string, said concentric tubing string further comprising an inner tube means having an inner annulus therethrough and an outer tube means forming an outer annulus between said outer tube means and said inner tube means, means for introducing into said well bore a pressurized clean out medium through one of the said inner annulus and outer annulus, and means for removing said material and clean out medium through the other of the said inner annulus and said outer annulus to the surface of said well bore. In a preferred embodiment, the introducing means comprises a discharge compressor or mud pump and the removing means comprises a suctioning compressor.
