  • Patent number: 4355051
Abstract: A white, defatted, food-grade peanut flour having an unusually high protein solubility and being suitable for human consumption is disclosed. Peanuts are heated, in preparation for blanching, at temperatures of about 220.degree.-250.degree. F., for a period of time sufficient to eliminate the raw peanut taste. The peanuts are blanched, remoisturized without heat, flaked, solvent extracted, filtered, desolventized and ground into flour.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 15, 1980
Date of Patent: October 19, 1982
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Joseph Pominski, James J. Spadaro, Henry M. Pearce
  • Patent number: 4219469
Abstract: The undesirable coloration generally found in cottonseed and other oilseed protein isolates prepared from oilseed flours or concentrates is substantially eliminated or improved by treatment of the flours with a specific solvent mixture containing a non-polar solvent, a polar solvent, a quantity of water, and a small quantity of a food-grade organic acid. The improved isolates render the consumer product more acceptable from the point of view of improved coloration.

  • Patent number: 4201709
Abstract: A low-gossypol, high-protein flour is produced by a process which utilizes conventional solvent extraction equipment with a certain series of steps, culminating at a point where a defatted, milled, cottonseed flour mixture is rendered edible for human consumption by the separation of the gossypol-containing portion.

  • Patent number: 4025658
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing milk-like products from peanuts. More particularly, this invention relates to a process whereby peanuts are heated, blanched, ground into a peanut flour and then heated in an aqueous solution to give a stable milk-like suspension.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 30, 1975
Date of Patent: May 24, 1977

  • Patent number: 3960763
Abstract: Economical foams have been prepared from selected formulations containing whey solids, animal glue, surfactants, viscosity-builders, and activated charcoal. These foams are lightweight and act as carriers for the charcoal. Easy handling and dispersibility of the activated charcoal was accomplished by a combination of surfactants, either one being used as a wetting agent to control the activated charcoal and the other added to the remainder of the formulation. When applied broadcast on the soil, these foams are useful in removing from the soil residual toxic herbicides and pesticides which can cause significant damage to a sensitive succeeding crop.
