  • Patent number: 4756651
Abstract: A cargo restraining device for a palletized load including a platform with a pallet crosstie reception slot for receiving a pallet with a load of cargo thereon, and a vertical frame at one end of the platform. A handle is pivotally secured to the frame and connected to a horizontally extending member which is movable to place it in frictional contact with a floor or supporting surface. To lock the pallet and platform to the floor, the handle is pushed downwardly while at the same time pushing the vertical frame toward the load. Movement of the handle which pivots about a hinge pivotally connected to the frame, moves the horizontally-extending member into contact with the supporting surface and at the same time lifts and tilts the platform, which adds an augmented downward force on the horizontally-extending member in contact with the supporting surface.

  • Patent number: 4529345
Abstract: A device for securely restraining open head shipping drums during vehicular transport. The device comprises a platform member supported in spaced relation from an underlying floor, and having an upper load bearing surface for receiving a cargo load of open head shipping drums thereupon. An upright member is adjoined to one end of the platform member for effecting restraining contact with the adjacent side of the load seated on the platform member, the upright member including a generally planar member facing the load. The upper load bearing surface of the platform member is stepped to define first and second generally planar support levels at alternate sides of the platform member, whereby drums respectively supported on the first and the second levels are precluded from impact between their respective rims, upon side-to-side movement or swaying thereof.

  • Patent number: 4403556
Abstract: The drum retainer includes a platform for supporting a plurality of drums thereon in an upright condition. A hold-down mechanism extends upright from the platform with the drums arranged circumferentially relative thereto. The hold-down mechanism engages the tops of the drums and provides for their securement between the hold-down mechanism and the platform. The platform is spaced above the floor by floor contacting members having teeth that penetrate the floor by virtue of the weight of the drum laden retainer to generally restrain the drum retainer against movement.

  • Patent number: 4350359
Abstract: A side car attachment for a motorcycle including a wheeled frame which is attached to the motorcycle frame forward of the engine by a single or primary hitch coupling. The wheeled frame extends laterally outward from the hitch coupling and then rearwardly on one or both sides of the motorcycle frame. The coupling hitch permits the motorcycle to lean when making turns without any corresponding lean of the side car attachment. The hitch coupling also permits the motorcycle to have its longitudinal axis turn about a vertical axis by a limited amount to give the driver a feeling of independence in spite of the presence of the side car in that the turning radius and leaning are not significantly restricted. The hitch coupling also permits a user to rapidly connect or disconnect the side car from the motorcycle without tools.

  • Patent number: 4317645
Abstract: A cargo retainer having a floor contacting member provided with an upwardly facing load bearing surface and an upright member secured adjacent to one end of the floor contacting member is provided with a floor piercing element. The floor piercing element is movably mounted adjacent to the juncture between the floor contacting member and the upright member and is movable between a floor piercing position and a position rendering the element incapable of piercing the floor.

  • Patent number: 4277211
Abstract: An adjustable retainer for use simultaneously with various widths of cargo has four identical retainer sections, a first and a second section being disposed along the length of one side of a cargo carrying vehicle and a third and a fourth being disposed along the opposite side of the vehicle such that the first and the fourth retainer sections are opposite each other. Each retainer section is composed of a series of parallel flat elongated members each having a first and second end. Each first end of each flat member is pivotably fastened to the floor at the side wall of the vehicle. Each second end of each flat member is pivotably attached to a long angle member which in turn is attached to a long hollow cylindrical member. The hollow cylindrical members of each of the four retainer members may be positioned adjacent to the cargo. A pair of spanner bars each having two pivotal connections joins the first and the second retainer sections and the third and the fourth retainer sections.

  • Patent number: 4160531
Abstract: Coil material such as reels of steel become telescoped when they are shipped or handled and a very difficult problem is presented to move them back to the original desired condition. Also, it is necessary to rewind coils of steel reels so that they are tightly wound. The present invention provides means for changing the telescoped condition back to the original reeled condition and also for rewinding the reel so that it is tight in a simple and inexpensive manner.

  • Patent number: 4141117
Abstract: A tool for releasing cone locks which can generally be moved in only a single direction on a cable or rod wherein the tool is provided with a portion that can be inserted into the lock to engage and release the locking mechanism such that the lock can be removed from the cable or rod thus preventing the rod and cable from having to be cut.

  • Patent number: 4057274
Abstract: An apparatus for bracing and securing entrance doors to a storage area has a bracing means detachably connected within the storage area adjacent the door. A free end of a retainer member is aligned through an aperture in the door and pushed into a locking means mounted adjacent the aperture on the bracing means. The free end of the retaining member is slidably engaged in a locking means as it is pushed therein. The locking means locks to the free end of the retaining member when an attempt is made to withdraw said member.

  • Patent number: 4022292
Abstract: A portable tree stand which can be used for hunting or other purposes and which can be pushed to any desired height with the use of a pole which fits into a receptacle and includes a pair of rollers mounted at an angle on one side of the tree and a roller locking claw on the other side of the tree which locks the stand at the desired height. A ladder extends downwardly from the stand and allows the hunter to climb up to the stand after which the ladder can be pulled upwardly to the stand to make into a chair. Heating means as well as gun and bow and arrow holding means are provided on the stand. Also, the stand can be used as a back pack, as a chair, a cot, a table or a litter for carrying injured persons, or when desired, for toting heavy loads.

  • Patent number: 4010788
Abstract: A bolt seal for securing hasps on trailer truck doors and/or rail car doors which utilizes a round or oval head bolt which extends through the hasps and upon which a nut is threaded. The nut is threaded onto the bolt until it is tight and then a hollow tube is used to bend the bolt sharply to about 90.degree. just under the nut. Identification number areas are formed at the tail of the bolt and on a flat portion of the bolt adjacent the head. If a thief tries to break the seal by bending the bolt back to its original straight condition, the metallurgy of the bolt is selected so that the bolt breaks off. This indicates that the seal has been tampered with and furthermore, the thief finds that if he tries to turn the nut the round head of the bolt will rotate and since the threads are upset by the bending he will be unable to remove the nut. A modification of the invention utilizes a spin nut which is cylindrical in shape.

  • Patent number: 3998167
Abstract: An apparatus for bracing items of freight on the loading platform of a freight carrying vehicle has a rod or cable tie-down having one end connected to an anchor on the loading platform. The opposite end of the tie-down is positioned through an aperture in a frame member of the item of freight. First and second locking means are positioned over the opposite end of the tie-down with an expansion means therebetween. The locking means slide over the cable in one direction but lock to the cable in the opposite direction. When the expansion means expands, one locking means grabs the cable while the other is slid along the cable into tight abutment with the frame member to create a tension in the cable.

  • Patent number: 3975040
Abstract: A snap ring lock which utilizes a bolt or cable that can be extended through hasps and which has a locking portion formed with tapered grooves spaced predetermined distances apart and receivable in a cylindrical member having a plurality of snap rings spaced therein at predetermined distance which distance is different from the distance between the grooves of the bolt to provide a seal which can be locked in a number of positions to adjust to the particular requirements. In a modification the bolt may carry the snap rings and the grooves may be formed internally within the locking member and identification can be placed on the bolt.
