  • Patent number: 11738173
Abstract: A catheter assembly includes a catheter hub defining an interior cavity and a catheter tube extending distally thereof. A rigid actuator is positioned to extend proximally in the interior cavity and support a seal member positioned thereon in the interior cavity. The seal member includes a central membrane, a distal portion, and a proximal portion. An hourglass shaped actuator cavity is formed in the distal portion and receives a barbed end of the actuator. The outer surface of the seal member is in partial circumferential engagement with the catheter hub to define an air path that allows fluid communication between areas of the interior cavity distal and proximal of the seal member. The seal member may be configured for multi-use and include a biasing member that moves the seal member to force the membrane back over the actuator to close the membrane.

  • Publication number: 20220233816
Abstract: A catheter hub of a safety needle assembly that includes a multiuse valve uses a proximal portion of the catheter as an actuator to open the partition membrane of the valve when the valve is subjected to an external biasing force. In another embodiment, the actuator is formed as an integral component of the catheter hub.

  • Publication number: 20220175307
Abstract: A medical dressing comprises at least one light source and at least one light sensor fixedly attached to a substrate and configured to measure a reddening of a portion of skin as an early indicator of phlebitis around the wound site. A method of phlebitis detection and monitoring comprises covering a wound site with a medical dressing comprising at least one light source and at least one light sensor such that the wound site is situated between the two, and whereby reddening of the skin is monitored by analyzing light reflected off the skin.

  • Patent number: 7785296
Abstract: A needle tip spring protector for a needle having a proximal end, a distal end, and a shaft extending therebetween. The needle tip spring protector includes a spring that circumferentially surrounds a portion of the needle shaft and is restrained in a state wherein its inner diameter is large enough to allow the shaft to move freely within the spring. When the needle is moved to a position in which its distal end is at least partly within the spring, at least one of the ends of the spring releases from restraint such that the spring automatically returns to a state in which its inner diameter is sized so as to grippingly engage the shaft of the needle. Thus, after activation, the spring securely surrounds the distal end of the needle to protect healthcare workers and others from accidental contact with the needle's distal end. When used in conjunction with a catheter assembly, the needle tip spring protector may passively release from the catheter hub after the spring is automatically activated.

  • Patent number: 5187641
Abstract: A care management workstation unit which contains three basic elements. There is a cathode ray tube or CRT, a mount, and a system unit. The CRT is rotatably mounted on the mount. It is capable of any rotational position and is able to be balanced at all such positions. The CRT is unique in that it is integral to the system. The mount connects the CRT to the system unit. It is able to be mounted flush against a wall such that the entire unit is supported by the mount. The system unit is also flush with the wall and the wall mount so that the entire system may be placed for mounting against a wall. In all, these three devices combine into one system to provide for a powerful, compact and ergonomically successful device which enables one to use the system virtually anywhere within a hospital or industrial setting.

  • Patent number: 4627440
Abstract: An inflatable, deflatable cuff, worn by the subject, is coupled to an air reservoir which is at a predetermined pressure which is above systolic pressure. The pressure head is established by a pump mechanism preferably located within the reservoir. When the reservoir is operatively coupled to the cuff, the cuff quickly inflates to a desired artery-occluding initial pressure preparatory to a following blood pressure measuring cycle of operation. The air pump resumes air flow into the reservoir when pressure within the reservoir falls below a predetermined threshold in preparation for a subsequent measurement cycle. The pump also supplies air directly to the cuff should the reservoir contents ever be inadequate to inflate fully the occluding cuff.
