  • Patent number: 8882131
Abstract: A double articulated truck has a front vehicle module with a drive engine and having at least one wheeled axle driven by the drive engine through a transmission and having a load-bearing bin, the front vehicle module being interconnected in an articulated manner about a first vertical pin to the front of the load-bearing bin. A rear vehicle module is interconnected in an articulated manner about a second vertical pin to the rear of the load-bearing bin, the rear vehicle module having at least one wheeled axle whereby the bin is supported by the front and rear vehicle modules. The rear module only articulates about the second vertical pin when the articulation of the front module to the bin exceeds 30 degrees and then in a synchronous manner. Typically the maximum articulation of the front module is around 42 degrees and the rear module some 13 degrees.

  • Patent number: 7139756
Abstract: A system and a method are described for rapidly determining document similarity among a set of documents, such as a set of documents obtained from an information retrieval (IR) system. A ranked list of the most important terms in each document is obtained using a phrase recognizer system. The list is stored in a database and is used to compute document similarity with a simple database query. If the number of terms found to not be contained in both documents is less than some predetermined threshold compared to the total number of terms in the document, these documents are determined to be very similar. It is shown that these techniques may be employed to accurately recognize that documents, that have been revised to contain parts of other documents, are still closely related to the original document. These teachings further provide for the computation of a document signature that can then be used to make a rapid comparison between documents that are likely to be identical.

  • Patent number: 6973428
Abstract: A speech conversation is changed to a text transcript, which is then pre-processed and subjected to text mining to determine salient terms. Salient terms are those terms that meet a predetermined level of selectivity in a collection. The text transcript of the speech conversation is displayed by emphasizing the salient terms and minimizing non-salient terms. An interface is provided that allows a user to select a salient term, whereupon the speech conversation is played beginning at the location, in the speech file, of the selected salient term.

  • Patent number: 6397211
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for identifying useless or insignificant documents in a document hit list assembled from documents stored in one or more document collection databases. A search engine is used to compose the document hit list based on a query presented by a user. A text extraction algorithm run by a processor is then used to process the documents identified by the document hit list to produce a table of terms and their corresponding collection-level importance ranking called the IQ or Information Quotient. The text algorithm also produces a table of the most important terms per document. The documents are also scanned independently and a table of documents with filenames and lengths is also produced. A summarizing text algorithm is also run by a processor against the documents of the document hit list to produce a table of terms having a high tf*idf value for each document.

  • Publication number: 20010003393
Abstract: The present invention is for a multi-combination vehicle including a prime mover having an engine and at least one powered trailer mechanically coupled to the prime mover. A control system measures the relative motion or force between the two, preferably by the use of a load cell and accordingly adjusts the operation of the engine on the power trailer so that the powered trailer and the prime mover are synchronized in their movement. This allows a multi-combination vehicle to carry a significant load, by providing sufficient motive power without the potential for damage to the transmission and differential system of the prime mover.

  • Patent number: 4688746
Abstract: One or more spinning flywheels are adapted to despin or partially despin a rotating mass such as a satellite and to convert the rotational energy into heat or electrical energy. The flywheels have one degree of freedom, parallel to the satellite, spin axis. This one degree of freedom allows the flywheel to precess in the manner of a gyroscope. As the flywheel precesses it turns a shaft which drives an electrical generator which produces electrical power that can be taken out of the despin device to drive external electrical devices that will disperse the rotational energy in the form of heat, light or electrically driven chemical changes. The flywheels exchange rotational energy after the spin vector of the spinning flywheel becomes congruent with the spin vector of the spinning satellite, thereby allowing the energy extraction process to be repeated. Bearing loss makeup energy is restored to the spinning flywheel system by feedback from the extracted satellite rotational energy.

  • Patent number: 4623065
Abstract: A demountable system for the display of merchandise such as books, magazines, newspapers and the like. This system employs a top cap and contoured upright struts having an appropriate contour to orient shelving at different angles to the vertical from a upper most position on the strut to a lower most position. The system is easily installed or disassemblied at a particular place of business. The principal feature involves providing an open channel in the rear surface of each strut to releasably accept the edge of a spacer panel contoured to the desired configuration of the strut. In this way, the strut is always maintained in the proper configuration without the mechanical attachments of spacers and the like as previously employed. One end of each of the struts is received within a top cap and a further end engages the floor to maintain each strut in proper orientation without physical fasteners.
