    Abstract: A process for preparing carbostyril derivatives such as aripiprazole is described. Dichlorophenylpiperazine or an acid addition salt thereof is reacted with a compound of formula X—C4H8—Y or X—C4H6—Y to produce a novel quaternary spiro ammonium salt intermediate which is optionally isolated and purified. The quaternary spiro ammonium salt intermediate is reacted with 7-hydroxydihydrocarboxystyryl to produce the carbostyril derivative.

    Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparation of piperidine derivatives, preferably 1,3-dioxolo [4,5-c] piperidin-7-ols such as (3aS, 4R, 7S, 7aR)-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-dioxolo [4,5-c] piperidin-7-ol and its polyhydroxylated derivatives. In a preferred process, 2,3-O-isopropylidene-1,4-lactone (A) is reacted with methanesulfonyl chloride to form (3aR, 4S, 6aR) methanesulfonic acid 2,2-dimethyl-6-oxo-tetrahydro-furo[3,4-d][1,3]dioxol-4-ylmethyl (B). Compound (B) is then reacted with methylmagnesium halide to form (3aR, 4S, 6aR)-methanesulfonic acid 6-hydroxy-2,2,6-trimethyl-tetrahydro-furo[3,4-d][1,3]dioxol-4-ylmethyl ester (C), which is reacted with phthalimide to form (3aR, 4S, 6aR)-2-(6-hydroxy-2,2,6-trimethyl-tetrahydro-furo[3,4-d][1,3]dioxol-4-ylmethyl)-isoindole-1,3-dione (D). Compound (D) is reacted with hydrazine to form (3S, 7S, 7aR)-2,2,4-trimethyl-3a,6,7,7a-tetrahydro-[1,3]dioxolo[4,5-c]pyridin-7-ol (E), which is hydrogenated to give the corresponding 1,3-dioxolo [4,5-c] piperidin-7-ol (F).

    Abstract: An electronic apparatus for converting a visible image of an object into a digital representation of this visible image is described. The apparatus comprises a cartridge having a first portion through which light emitted from a visible image of an object enters into the cartridge, which comprises an array of focusing elements, each of which having a field of vision intersecting a given area of the visible image. Adjacent ones of these focusing elements have fields of vision intersecting common portions of the visible image, whereby substantially the entirety of the visible image is covered by combined fields of vision of focusing elements. The cartridge further compised an array of optical sensors arrays, each wich is optically associated with a respective one of the focusing elements. These optical sensors arrays produce groups of analog pixel signals representing partial images associated with corresponding areas of the visible image.
