  • Patent number: 7784680
Abstract: An automated banking machine (10) determines consecutive receipt jam event indications, involving at least two receipts, prior to generating a receipt jam signal. The machine, upon determining a jam event involving a first receipt, implements a jam annunciation delay routine. The routine delays generation of a receipt jam signal until at least the next receipt is also determined to be involved in a receipt jam event indication. The delay provides the opportunity for a user to clear the indicated receipt jam prior to generation of a receipt jam signal.

  • Patent number: 5954439
Abstract: A statement printer in an automated teller machine includes a guide block (86) which supports a print head (110). The print head prints on paper (130) which is moved adjacent thereto as the guide block moves transversely relative to the paper. A cutter disk (76) is supported by the guide block. The cutter disk is journaled on an arm (82). The arm is connected to an actuating lever (92). The actuating lever is engageable with stops (106) near the transverse extremes of travel of the guide block. Selective engagement of the actuating lever with the stops moves the cutter disk between cutting and non-cutting positions. Cam members (108) adjacent to the stops dispose the cutter disk away from a cooperating cutter bar (74) as the cutter disk moves between the cutting and non-cutting positions.

  • Patent number: 5879092
Abstract: A system indicates fault conditions in an automated banking machine journal printer (12, 106). The journal printer is supplied with paper from a paper supply (16, 112). Movement of paper by the printer is sensed by a detector (70, 124). An amount of paper remaining in the paper supply is sensed by a second detector (78, 122). The detectors are connected to an electronic circuit (74, 118) including a processor (76, 120). Fault signals are generated by said electronic circuit responsive to said detectors sensing conditions representative of paper jam, paper low and paper out conditions.

  • Patent number: 5850075
Abstract: An automated banking machine (10) includes a receipt transport and retracting apparatus (26). The machine includes a printer (30) which delivers a sheet (108) which is a transaction receipt for a transaction conducted at the machine. The sheet is transported in engaged relation with the lower flights of two transversely disposed belts (50, 52). A gate member (76) is positioned adjacent to the printer and is rotatably mounted. The gate member includes slots (78) which extend transversely between the arcuate outside surface (86) and inside surface (88) of the gate member. In the first position of the gate member the belt flights extend through the slots. Engagement of a sheet moving in an outward direction from the printer toward an outlet (118) moves the gate member to a second rotational position in which the sheet passes the gate member. The sheet moves in the outward direction until it reaches the outlet and extends through an opening (24) where it is accessible to a user.

  • Patent number: 5816720
Abstract: A statement printer of an automated teller machine includes a top plate (16) pivotally mounted on a pair of spaced side walls (12). The top plate supports a ribbon cartridge (18) thereon. The cartridge includes a pair of downward extending projections (38) which are accepted in a longitudinally extending recess (24) in the top plate. Notches (40) and the longitudinally extending projections engage a leaf spring (28) to position the cartridge thereon. The top plate further includes a pair of finger projections (30) having slots (34) for accepting wing projections (36) that extend from the sides of the cartridge. The guided relationship between the downward extending projections and wing projections on the cartridge and the longitudinal recess and the slots on the top plate enable the cartridge to be guided into position on and off the top plate which facilitates changing the cartridge in the confined space inside an automated teller machine.

  • Patent number: 5779379
Abstract: A receipt form handling system for an automated banking machine includes a printer (30) which prints indicia on paper extending in a paper path (151). Paper is moved in the paper path by engagement with a drive mechanism (157,159). Paper sheets are delivered by the drive mechanism to a delivery area, which includes a nip (114) of a sheet transport (26). The transport removes the sheets from the delivery area. A cutter (153) is positioned in the paper path and operates to selectively cut the paper. A sensor (155) is positioned at a location in the paper path upstream from the cutter. A controller (112) is in operative connection with the sensor and the cutter. The controller operates the cutter so that the paper is cut to produce a form sheet after indicia is printed on a portion of the paper. Upon the sensor detecting an approaching end of the paper, the controller ceases operation of the cutter. This avoids producing forms that are of insufficient length to be handled by the drive or transport.

  • Patent number: 5725321
Abstract: A system for indicating fault conditions in an automated banking machine includes a journal printer (12). The journal printer is supplied with paper from a paper supply roll (16). The paper supply roll is supported on a spindle (22). The spindle is engaged to the paper roll by spring arms (60). The spindle further includes a spring loaded retainer member (42) and a flange portion (34) which act to apply a drag force on the spindle to prevent overrunning. The spindle also has an encoder member (40) thereon. Rotation of the encoder member is sensed by an opto-electrical detector (70). A diameter of the paper supply roll is sensed by a second opto-electrical detector (78) positioned between the spindle and the printer. The detectors are connected to an electronic circuit (74) including a processor (76). Fault signals are generated by said electronic circuit responsive to said detectors sensing conditions representative of paper jam, paper low and paper out conditions.
