    Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with digital optical circuits, including an optical astable multivibrator. In one example, an optical astable multivibrator is provided that includes a lasing semiconductor optical amplifier (LSOA), such as a VLSOA for example. The LSOA is optically coupled to a time delay component and includes a pump input, amplifier input, amplifier output, and a ballast laser output. The time delay component includes an input that is optically coupled with the ballast laser output of the LSOA. The time delay component further includes an output that is optically coupled with the amplifier input of the LSOA. The output of the LSOA is a clock signal having a periodic square waveform whose frequency is determined by the time delay component.

    Abstract: Methods, compositions and devices for inhibiting restenosis are provided.     Abstract: A clock recovery system and related method are disclosed. One example of the clock recovery system includes an optical detector and lasing SOA that are arranged so that the optical detector detects ballast laser light emitted by the lasing SOA. The optical detector includes an output that is connected to a first input of a phase detector that includes both first and second inputs. A filter is included in the clock recovery system as well and has an input and an output, the input being connected to the output of the phase detector. Finally, this example of the clock recovery system includes an oscillator having an input and an output arranged so that the input of the oscillator is connected to the output of the filter, and the output of the oscillator is connected with the second input of the phase detector.

    Abstract: An optical multiplexer is provided that includes a reconfigurable switching fabric with a number of inputs and outputs. In addition, the reconfigurable switching fabric employs VLSOAs that facilitate at least partial reconfiguration of the switching fabric by serving as switches to add, drop or pass-through one or more optical signals received at the inputs of the reconfigurable switching fabric. In some cases, one or more of the VLSOAs also serve to amplify one or more optical signals so as to compensate for losses that may be experienced by the signal in transit through the switching fabric, or elsewhere. Finally, this example of the optical multiplexer includes a wavelength division multiplexer coupled to the reconfigurable switching fabric and configured to multiplex at least some of the optical signals received from outputs of the reconfigurable switching fabric.

    Abstract: An Internet based broadcasting system manages the insertion of advertisements and other messages into multiple broadcasts of live sporting events and other types of broadcasts. The insertion of advertisements and other messages is governed by program logs generated by a traffic system, signals extracted from the broadcasts themselves, and signals received from producer systems. The traffic system facilitates the marketing of advertising opportunities for the multiple broadcasts packaged in a variety of ways. The broadcasts are received by tuner systems that are automatically downloaded and installed on user's computers. The tuner systems can download and display demographically selected multimedia advertisements, banner advertisements, and a variety of messages that may be called for by the producer systems, which may be wireless portable computers that can be carried to sports events or other broadcasts by the producers of the broadcasts.

    Abstract: In accordance with the present invention there is provided a method for making a highly radiopaque polyolefin compound, wherein the radiopaque material in said compound is substantially uniformly dispersed and held within a polymer matrix. During the method one first heats an amount of polyolefin, preferably low density polyethylene, to at least its melting temperature. The amount of polyolefin is equal to at least 10% by weight of the compound. Then an amount of radiopaque metal powder is added to the polyolefin. The amount of radiopaque metal is equal to up to 90% by weight of the compound. The metal powder is preferably tantalum, tungsten, gold or platinum. Thereafter, an amount of a dispersing agent is added to the polyolefin to form a mixture. The amount of dispersing agent is equal to at least 0.2% by weight of the compound. The dispersing agent is preferably zinc stearate, aluminum stearate or calcium stearate. Lastly, the mixture is mixed and cooled below its melting temperature to form the compound.

In one aspect one or more of the strips has one, two, or more humps or ridges corresponding to one or more corrugations in a corrugated perforated plate and/or corrugated screen assembly which is on the plate or, with no plate present, on the strips. In another aspect instead of the strips a solid corrugated perforated plate is used. In one aspect openings or perforations through the plate are triangular. In one aspect the screen is undulating screening material and lower portions of the screening material are bonded to a plate or to strips. Optionally screen mounting hooks or frame edges or screen edges may be used with such screens.

    Abstract: An exhaust system for use with a high temperature furnace used to perform oxidation and/or annealing operations of the type used in semiconductor fabrication. The exhaust system is designed to permit the furnace to be used with a controlled environment chamber surrounding the entry to the process chamber of the furnace. The exhaust system allows a relatively high velocity flow of exhaust gas from the process chamber through the exhaust system to occur when a positive pressure (e.g., annealing) operations are performed. Such high velocity flow prevents (a) backstreaming and (b) the accumulation of non-uniform concentrations of exhaust gases in the exhaust system, thereby permitting the accurate monitoring of the concentration of a selected gas in the exhaust system. Based on such monitoring, the opening of the door to the process chamber of the furnace may be prevented when the concentration of the selected gas exceeds a predetermined level.
