  • Patent number: 4504285
Abstract: Apparatus and method for separating condensible vapors from a gas mixture. The apparatus may include an expansion chamber of circular cross section, one end of which terminates in a converging nozzle section; a tubular separator connected to the expansion chamber, the walls of which have perforations therein; and a diffuser chamber of circular cross section, the entrance of which is a diverging nozzle section. Relatively high pressure gas and condensible vapors are introduced into the expansion chamber for isentropic expansion, cooling and increase of velocity thereof by passing through the converging nozzle. The cooled gas and entrained liquids, resulting from the cooling thereof, are passed through the tubular member, the entrained liquids passing through the perforated wall thereof for separation from the gas. The gas from which the liquids have been separated are then isentropically compressed by passing through the diverging nozzle section for exhaust through the diffuser chamber.

  • Patent number: 4286347
Abstract: A double acting turbine for converting water wave energy to electrical power in a marine buoy or platform. A tubular body is provided one end of which is adapted to be inserted into the water wave and the second end is adapted to extend out of the water whereby the rise and fall of water in the body creates a flow of air in alternate directions through the body. A turbine having a plurality of outwardly extending blades is positioned in the body above the water level and exposed to and rotated by the flow of air and is connected to an electrical generator for generating electricity in response to the rotation of the wheel. The turbine is designed to operate with air flowing in either direction through the turbine so that power is generated as the water both rises and falls in the tubular body. The turbine blades include a concave surface on one side and a convex surface on the opposite side.

  • Patent number: 3981156
Abstract: A method of recovering vapors from exhausts or vents of containers of volatile substances comprising the steps of: providing a scrubber for connection to the vapor space of the container to receive a flow of vapors therefrom; providing a reservoir of absorber fluid; cooling the absorber fluid; introducing the cooled absorber fluid into the scrubber for intimate contact with the flow of vapors therethrough; and returning the vapors absorbed by the cooled absorber fluid to the container. The scrubber may include a spray nozzle adapted to spray cooled absorber fluid in a direction generally concurrent with the flow of vapors. Alternate methods of returning absorbed vapors to the container are disclosed.
